Guys, can someone put up a link to Gary Perry’s interview with Huddo on SEN just now? V interesting, clearly the review was a deep dive and the onus is on the coaching panel to deliver next year. I find Perty is pretty good/honest in these interviews - worth a listen.

Blah blah blah

I hate this response.

EVERY clubs CEO gets interviewed at some stage.  It's inevitable.  Why we need the 'blah blah blah' and 'it's all talk' stuff is beyond me.  We know we need to perform on field, but this stuff is always going to happen regardless of whether we're first or last on the ladder.

The next 1-2 Seasons are crucial for the MFC

Our assets are mostly Ca$h so we have to keep building and investing.
A bad year in 2021 and those cash reserves will take a big hit

We are a Football Club, we have to do well onfield, nothing else will cut it

I am sure Pert knows this

I will have faith until he proves otherwise.

You are not alone. While most of us are far from happy with the progress over the last two years you have to give the current group a go and hope for improvement. If you are so far down you say blah blah blah. Then find something else for your leisure time you will obviously be happier.

I have never been a fan of the talk out of the MFC, maybe because all we have heard for many many seasons is just talk but in saying that I though Pert spoke well. It wasnt just political jargon. Making finals, playing more consistently and the coaches know exactly what is expected of them in season 21.

You cannot expect anymore from the CEO before Preseason

The Standards have been set

Now it is up to The Football Department to meet them

What concerns me Sir is that the expectations were also set for this season and look how that panned out!!

I do have a feeling though if its another failed season the coach will be gone but i would rather a sucessful season for a change.

Hard to argue with that DO.

Let me try OD.  While I agree with DO's last sentence, when I look at how the seaosn panned out I am not that dismayed.  Sure, those last matches in the Cairns swamp were embarrasing and disappointing, but we were not that far off the mark if your expectations were just making the finals. Those who planned for a top 4 finish were probably always setting themselves up for disappointment IMO.

The Coach will be gone midseason if we are not winning games.
like you, I would prefer him to succeed

It was good that Pert joined the hub full-time when they went to Queensland. He sat in meetings, went to training etc etc.  Very valuable insight into how the off-field work translates (or doesn't) to on-field performance.

Pert made some interesting comments (@11.00min) when asked about Goodwin.   He said there was a lot of support for him, he was very good 1:1 and a good teacher.

He then talked of the need to win finals not how Geelong or Richmond do but by making the most of the strengths and attributes of the players we have.  Hudson asked him if this was not already happening.  Good question Huddo!   Pert didn't directly answer the question but talked about the coaching challenge and focus ahead.

It is coaching 101 to have a game plan that suits the talents available not the other way round.  It was Roos' mantra from the start of his career.  Somewhere along the way, I feel Goodwin lost sight of that.  I and others on here have lamented that Goodwin has a game plan he wants to play but doesn't have the players for that style.  Having listened to the interview several times I thought Pert was saying the same thing.

Pert has set Goodwin the challenge to focus on a game style this preseason, that brings out the best in the players we have and makes the most of their strengths and their attributes.

To me that focus appears to be the foundation of our current list management decisions (which is as it should be) and puts Mahoney's comments about using existing players for the wing role into a broader context.

I hope that Goodwin rises to the occasion and look forward to what the game plan looks like.  And hopefully he settles it and the players into it, in the preseason so that we don't have the major changes during next season.   We all saw it this year:  'chaos' then 'control' then 'chaos' again then a mixture.  We aren't Geelong and we aren't Richmond so I really like the focus Pert is asking for.

How refreshing it would be to have a consistent game plan, consistent team selections and consistent implementation with everyone on the same page.

This is what a few of us have been saying all season. HOPEFULLY goody has got the message and we have a successful season in 21.

The talk is always going to be there every single year.

With that in mind, what do you expect them to say?

I didnt mind what Pert said but previous management it was just spin when we had pathetic season after pathetic season. I dont know about u wise but it was very tiresome. It was like listening to political BS season after season.

With us in that positon for so many seasons a more direct and honest approach would have been appreciated.

Just listened to the full 18 minutes

Gary spoke really well and the Club knows what is expected

Our best is Top Shelf, we just don’t play that way for long enough, exactly the way i saw the year  All above the shoulders, and attitude

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
