Looking like it's time to go down the 'Jack Darling' path

Yep, time for someone to take him camping with some co-eds.

I heard Mac Andrew has discipline issues.  I heard he has anger issues. I heard he has a drinking problem.  Is that enough to create the “don’t draft him Jack darling” stigma !!

He definitely has concussion issues -

As a footballer, Melbourne NGA prospect Mac Andrew is an absolute genius. He has not had a kick or a handball in the past month but has risen six places in the Draft Central Power Rankings: July 2021.

The NAB Boys League went into recess for a couple of weeks at the beginning of June for the city clubs including the Stingrays during the lockdown. Andrew played his only game for the month of June for the Stingrays against the Pioneers on 20 June and was concussed in the opening moments (stats - 2 tackles, 2 hit outs).

This is how the AFL Draft Central power ranking guru sums him up:-

“#15 Mac Andrew (MEL NGA)
Dandenong Stingrays/Vic Country | Ruck/Tall Utility
12/04/2003 | 200cm | 70kg

June Ranking: #21

Snapshot: A raw tall prospect who has proven his worth in each post, Andrew’s vertical leap and fast-developing craft really catch the eye.

Another key position type who rocketed up draft boards with a promising start to the year, Andrew will have Melbourne recruiters a little nervous with his performances to date. He now sits inside our current top 20, boasting raw athleticism and bucketloads of upside given his ever-improving ability to be utilised at either end of the ground, or in the ruck. While he has proven his versatility, the Demons Next Generation Academy (NGA) talent looks most comfortable in the ruck, where his leap and clean follow-up work stands out.

Last month:

Andrew was set to add to his exciting opening rounds with a return to NAB League action, but unfortunately fell to injury early in his outing against Bendigo. Having gone down in a heavy contest, Andrew hasn’t been sighted on-field since and also missed the Under 19 trials.”

On that basis, but for the injury, Mac probably would be sitting at #1 right now and we wish him good luck at either North Melbourne or Hawthorn in 2022.

Perhaps you could just say we should take him as a 1st round pick candidate and that will be enough to see him slide, a la Winder, Ford and Maher!

Looking forward to seeing Mac Andrew play.

I will know, didn't even realise it was on.

Pumped to watch Andrew but I'll be holding back until he's officially on our list. Not that hopeful TBH.

I find it hard to believe he's top 20 when he's not even the number 1 ruck for vic country.

Andrew has played ok taken some nice marks but I still don't think he's top 20 maybe I'm just hoping but he's not even the second ruckman. He's playing CHF. Can see why Daicos is number 1 just a ball magnet.

Well they finally played Andrew in the ruck in the last quarter. Shows promise but hopefully not a top 20 pick. Is George injured or is he just not good enough to make the country squad?

The highly rated Joshua Brown already up to 30 disposals early in the 4th quarter for East Freo colts, Taj Woewodin not far behind 26 disposals, 3 tackles, 8 marks and 1 goal

Woey putting in some good numbers a colts level.

what'd he finish with, @Pennant St Dee?

it'll be interesting to see if we do bring him across

Also, the draft pundits are saying that Woey Junior is a little bit “vanilla” and there’s little to excite about in his play. Your view?

I think they must’ve given him decent bench time in the 4th, only 1 more possession added to his tally

gotta protect him from higher bids :P

still, 27 disposals, 3 tackles, 8 marks, and a goal is a fine outing

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
