We don’t deserve finals! Need to stew on it over Summer and make some big changes... Starting with the footy department!

Dogs are more deserving because they beat us. And beat us well...!

This match will be over at 1/4 time. Dockers have nothing to play for. Bulldogs don’t rollover. They know what’s at stake and they’ll get the job done.

we can’t cry over spilt milk. We had our chance and well and truly blew it.

A win for the Dockers will cost them draft order.

If the Dockers were that desperate to win they probably would’ve rolled the dice on an injured Walters.

Dogs should be winning this one quite easily and if they do lose then they should be considered as mentally soft as us.

well they say it comes in three's

The Huntracc affair, Bennell throwing an all nighter and we all know what comes next.

What a underwhelming season by this club

If Freo had beaten the Dogs yesterday and we were playing today then our fate would be in our own hands. Teams always rely on the results of other games for ladder position - it's a sporting league. Should the Dogs lose and we haven't cheated then we deserve to play in the finals - stating otherwise is just odd. We are currently a mid-table team - whether we play in the finals or not doesn't alter how we've performed until this point in the season. You can still complain all you want.

Yeah not really understanding this dribble about how we don't deserve to play finals.

We beat st kilda, pies & giants all finals contenders or there abouts. Lost by under a kick to two 4 four teams. And just had a poor showing against Freo and Sydney. (Freo since have shown a lot of teams how much they are clicking)

The dogs for [censored] sake lost to the blues by 10 goals looked no where near it against pies and saints however have snuck a decent ground out win against the Eagles and played well against us.

Saints are the same had some horrible losses including norf, the Eagles B team at the Gabba , Freo, but again they have also had some great wins port and Richmond spring to mind.

Who ever is in the 8 tonight deserves to be there.

We’re all doomed. So many misery guts on here.  Hunt trac nothing to see there. Bennell yet to know full facts.  Don’t deserve finals. (Nor do dogs if they lose.  Final 7 required).

We’ll know within 10 minutes whether we’re a chance. Bulldogs don’t fail to take their chances like we do. They’ll end up winning by 50 plus like a Granny that’s over after halftime.

I distinctly remember dogs blowing a chance v wc a few weeks back

I didn't realise that Walters was out injured. That makes it pretty hard for the Dockers.

The Dogs have had the dream draw staying, and playing at the GC for most of their games.

They have met weakened sides like in the Eagles game, without Nic Nat, Yeo, Cripps, Shuey, Hurn, Redden and others. Against the Eagles they were also 3 of their 6 goals from soft frees and beat them by a dodgy goal line call,  in the last score of the game.

They had the best of the umpiring, allowing them to throw the ball to each other and getting soft frees in front of goal in many games and yes I watched most of them.

They hardly travelled. Now for the Cairns game they were allowed to go up early unlike us who were forced to go on the day, being our 3rd interstate game in 9 days.

Is all of that an excuse for us, no, but it sure was a help to the Dogs.

Hope they get smashed today, so we can again be the travelling team in the finals, to add to our leader record for this year in games travelled away from home or from our temporary home.

BTW, if we fluke it and get in, I actually think we can beat the Eagles in Perth, as they are not at their best and have a few injuries as well.

End of rant.

It's a very strange attitude to have "don't deserve finals", especially in a season were everyone has played each other once. If you make it you obviously deserve it because you've performed better than the clubs beneath.

Do I need to post our fixture? If one team doesn't 'deserve' to play finals compared to another team on the same points then there it is in plain text. Who wants to see St Kilda's or the back half of Collingwood's fixture as well?

They also lost to Collingwood, st Kilda and carlton by a combined total of 142 points. Not sure if your logic really adds up.

The game is not far from starting. I 've downed a couple of stubbies and just opened a Shiraz.

I feel strangely listless, lethargic - almost uncaring.

I'll watch of course but I'm not confident. A sense of doom and inevitability pervades The Manor.

As soon as a Doggies win becomes obvious I'll quietly get [censored] and reflect on opportunities lost.

Did Dogs go to Cairns today?

No and they are not coming off a 4 day break since Alice Springs and 3 games in 9 days. Nor is it pouring and blowing a gale.

And not a single 4-day turnaround, either.

I'm saving a proper chart for after the season so there's no sour grapes but I have a hunch that not many teams have won this year off 4-day breaks unless the opponent was also on 4 days.

Nobody could look at our season and think 'oh, well, they had it soft so they don't really deserve where they finished'.

Except possibly one of our throwing a sook-session.

Geelong did it once. They also have twelve blokes who have played more games than anyone on our list bar Jones.

All I can say is come on Hogan, dont let us down.

Show us you still love the Mfc and kick a dozen.

Dogs aren’t more deserving than us if they don’t make finals. You have to win games of footy and if we win enough games to make the 8 no one else deserves it more.

I’m talking about the Dees and Dogs! We were both playing for a finals spot when we played each other... They beat us hands down. If we beat them that day it would be us playing finals!

To be fair I was pretty hot that day they drove from Brisbane to Gold Coast.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
