I think I'm right in saying we now have 26, 31, 33, 43 and 50 as our first five picks this year.

How many of those get involved in a Brown trade?

My best guess is 26 on it's own, or 31 and 50.. but it's hard to tell. but that potentially does leave us with 31, 33 and 43 which could be traded for a higher pick,

He's the type of player we need, I just don't know if he's good enough for us to be interested.

He is better than what we have outside Pickett who would still be behind Lonie but has a massive upside

Not disagreeing necessarily, I wouldn't mind having him on a cheap short term contract. But the way Jason Taylor talked about Pickett last year as a rare small forward with special ability and our lack of public interest leads me to think we aren't considering him. Also have to question why he's on the outer at saints who play a small forward line and have been actively recruiting in that area. Probably on the outer for a reason. And the bulldogs have been interested in a small forward for years, and were linked to him at one stage this trade period, have distanced themselves while recruiting Hannan instead. Who knows, maybe this one will get done quietly as a surprise late trade for a nothing pick. I will be neither excited or disappointed.

We already have tiny Charlie Spargo. I’m not a big fan of Lonie and offers nothing extra give we have tiny Charlie

I see our priorities as another winger, quick half back and  small forward.

Depending on whether we move on a few more players on medium salary, or Tom on larger salary or both, will determine who we bring in. Also, whether we think Bedford can cover the extra small forward role and Hunt/Baker can cover the other two roles.

I would be happy to rookie a spare ruckman as insurance.

Think Philips from the bombers!!!!

HUN reporting Carlton have backed out of the Saad deal. Either tactics or just tired of dealing with Dodoro. Doubtful we have cap unless Tmac moves on but perhaps we should contact Saad's management for a chat.

I'd agree, but I dont think the sticking point would be just salary either. We don't have the picks to satisfy Essendon and Dodoro for Saad so it'd seem borderline impossible at this point.

Nah, AFL website reporting that they haven’t come to a deal yet but are confident a deal will get done. Saad will be a Blue in 2021.

They're just reporting that they backed out of a deal they thought they had last night, not that the deal is off all together. the HUN is saying the Blues backed away from pick 8 plus a future 4th for Saad and a 3rd this year. The AFL site is saying the Blues still want a 2nd back. No-one else is in the picture, it'll get done between Ess & Blues, or he'll go PSD.

Outside of massively overpaying in terms of a contract and pick for a half back flanker, Carlton are playing this quite well

I don't want to see Carlton benefit but it would be a laugh if Dodoro lost Saad through the PSD and didn't get Dunkley or Caldwell.

I would prefer a backup ruckman rookied.

If Essendon do have a genuine interest in Tom McDonald. i wonder if we could float the idea of a swap of Tmac for Phillips? need for need

Dodoro would demand a future round one draft pick.

At least! i sometimes forget dealing with Essendon is like dealing with a tantruming child in a supermarket

we have one now but he wont cut it.

I actually think the need is more urgent than a rookie.

Not sure it is actually that good!

My gut feel is that IF we are after Phillips and Pies do deals on Treloar, Stephenson and maybe Cox, they will be in a position to keep Phillips, or play hardball for a trade.

SO. if we want him, we might have to do a deal now, or pass, unless of course they want Tom.

I thought the Dees really should have gone for Witherden from the Lions.
Elite skills. Small defender.  That’s a gap for us.  Whilst some on here thought he was not gettable, ultimately the Eagles got him for a steal imv... Pick 58 and Future 3rd rd pick. I’d have give that up.

Trading Day on Fox Footy just said we discussing another pick swap, this time with Lions

It’s all done. It’s a blockbuster.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
