Yes I hate Gary Buckenara

Featured Replies

On the Front Bar. Hated him in 1987.  Still hate him in 2020.

Not sure Stynes ever redeemed himself in 244 games despite being an absolute champion.

We can say not much has changed. We still can't kick straight and still can't defend properly.

15 seconds to go in that game, in our forward line and with no pressure we let them go straight down the middleand get it to Buckenara to give them a chance at goal.

Typical melbourne

Carlton would have murdered us the next week anyway so shrug

I don’t hate buckenara, but I have to say it did still hurt after all these to remember that.
nowadays Eishold would have a./ run the clock down for 30 secs ( game over) b./ run around on the mark to open the angle  ( gameover) or c./passed it backwards to chew up time. That day Still remains my single worst supporting memory ... sitting right next to the best ever memories from the weeks before.

Correct. It would have been carnage in the GF.

Mine too, by a country mile.

The other interesting thing from last night was we tried to get him, offered $5000 cash as signing bonus another sliding door moment for the club.

And we were 22 point pts up at 3/4 time. Typical Melbourne choke.

Though we did beat them three times the next year, including in the finals.

We were rank underdogs in all three finals in '87, won the first two by 200 points total , then , again as rank underdogs, would have beaten Hawthorn with a bit more luck.

Northey really knew how to get te best of his players.

The Club doctor told me at the B andF dinner in 87, that the only player that would have missed the GF was Wilson. He was confident they would have been able to patch Flower up.

Thought Robbie had broken collar bone? If so, he wouldn't have played in the granny

I was at the gameWe should have won by 2 or 3 goals as we missed some easy goals. Not Jim’s fault

Agree. Eishold. Yeats. Campbell.  Three dead set chances to wrap up the game.

Same.  I deliberately avoided Front Bar last night because Buckenara = '97 Prelim and I don't want to hear it rehashed again.

I'm still not over it!

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
