Fair dinkum, this bloke is an absolute credit to himself, to his family, to the club, and to all indigenous people whom he seeks to speak for.

Nev is obviously also an invaluable mentor for the younger indigenous players who come to the club - right now, Kossie Pickett and Toby Bedford, each of whom are very important players for us and who are at a critical phase in their AFL journey.

It’s hard to find a guy we’ve recruited since who has done more for this club in an off field capacity than this guy.

And, to think, he was picked at 51 in the 2008 draft - the return on this pick relative to so many higher picks we’ve had since then has been remarkable.

I hope the club keeps him involved in some capacity for the remainder of his working career - I’ve no doubt there’s a very valuable role he can perform for us and the AFL more generally.

Agreed, Nev has been our family's favourite player for years. Never let you down. I'm biased but reckon he was the best small back pocket in the league for years. Don't write him off yet.

He just a quality human and it's a credit to himself and the club for his leadership to indigenous youth and the broader community. 

I'd imagine he's mentoring both the small forwards and Lockhart, imparting his calmness and knowledge and the club would look to secure him at the club for years to come.

He oozes integrity, leader and respect.

Love that he didn't blink when de-listed then given a lifeline as a rookie by Roos who saw 'something' in him and he went on to become the player and the man he is today.   Shows character.  Went on to be in the AA squad in 2017.  Repaid the faith in spades. 

I sometimes wonder how different things could have been for Jurrah and Wonaemirri if Jetta was the senior player and club man he is today when they came to the club.  As it was he was also just starting out. 

If a career in football is what Jetta aspires to I hope mfc give him that opportunity when he hangs up his boots.   Hope he gets a gig in the seniors again soon.

Wonna, maybe, but Jurrah ... born under a bad star and destined by fate not to be a long term AFL player.

Would love to see Nev in a permanent role of mentoring, preferably for MFC.

I think Nev has complimented the good work Matty Whelan has also done at the club since he rerired

I felt quite emotional when I saw our 5 proud indigenous men introducing themselves and the people and lands that they belong to.
 

When you think what indigenous people have had to put up with - in their own land - over the past 200 years or so, after developing a culture that’s lasted more than 60,000 years...It’s time to start listening to them - enough is enough.

Hes the best one on one defender we have had for as long as I can remember, would love him to stay with us full time as Backline coach if thats his cup of tea.

Also - another ‘big up’ to Ben Gibson for a great interview and asking pertinent questions.

You gotta love these stories, by all accounts he does more than even some of the most generous when it comes to his time. I hope to see a few more like Nev that wear our jumper with a purpose.

Agreed. My dad and I spoke to him on game day last year when he was injured. Top bloke, had plenty of time to chat. Great leader on and off the field.  

I also liked his comments about not having the flag this weekend. It’s ridiculous it can’t be shown.

It is agreed that this bloke is a quality person full stop, and has to be admired for taking the second chance with both hands.

He is a definite community leader by hias actions and attitude. His parents would be very very proud of  him

He also has been a terrific footballer.

He is a player that when he came into our club he didn't have a position.  To me early days he was a midfielder that just didn't have the tank to play big minutes in there, he was never a small forward and it wasn't till he had a foot out the door we put him down back, thank god we did and he fought hard for that spot.  Great story and should be told to any aspiring athlete or person a lesson on persistence and commitment. 

Nev is an out and out champ. Hope the club has the brains and the means to employ him somehow. Blokes like Nev help dispel negative myths about indigenous people.
