It's called risk management against a pandemic

Yes There was a case reported in South Australia today, so it is still travelling.

I will be in the minority no doubt, but I wouldn't want to be sitting in a crowd at all right now, it's bad enough going to the Supermarket!!

If it's risk management then Brisbane/GC would only be allowed 500 people maximum per game as well.

so why did they allow 1,000s at the gold coast on sunday? would it be because a qld team was playing?

Conspiracy 101?

Yes, you are in the minority.

I really don't get the 'zero' crowds at AFL games thing at all.

Yes, there may be 3000 people there, so theoretically I might have a higher chance than staying at home with my other 4 family members.  However I was probably only exposed to 4 - 6 individuals over the whole time I was there.  The crowd was sparce, I washed my hands well.  Probably the biggest possible exposure I could have had was if one of the food and beverage people were spreading it, but food vendors are still allowed to operate everywhere else.

I bet you would come into contact with a heap more different people on your supermarket trip than me watching the footy on Sunday night.  I'd be far more concerned about going out in Fortitude Valley where they allow big crowds of inebriated people mingling willy nilly with little regard for social distance, hygiene etc.

I get why it probably wouldn't be such a good idea to have a capacity crowd, but 3000 people in a stadium that holds closer to 30,000 isn't the drama you are making it out to be.  And there are stuff all known cases in Qld.  If there were Melbourne like problems I could see where you are comming from.

I respect that we need to take sensible measures because of COVID 19, but there is sensible and there is illogical.

https://www.afl.com.au/news/453826/queensland-crowds-are-go-2000-in-for-gabba-metricon

Article states that of the 2000 seats made available, 1850 were provided to Lions members and sponsors etc.  50 were provided to Eagles members and 100 to the general public.

So why the bloody hell should the MFC have to go 50/50 in only 500 available seats for our home game against Port - it's rank.

500 people is absolutely pathetic and insulting to the local MFC members in QLD.

Play it behind closed door so everyone can miss out as opposed to pretty much everyone.

It's like a teacher bringing in 30 chocolate bars into the class room and only 2 students getting a chocolate for no apparent reason.

Amen to that brother.

How can the AFL expect to grow the game in Qld when they impose these ridiculous restrictions.

I am lucki to see anywhere between 1-3 games a season and now my team is here I could potentially miss out on watching them at a ground up the road. What a load of [censored].

It’s really disappointing and frustrating.

This season is NOT ABOUT THE FANS but rather about saving money for the AFL.

Qld based member here too. Went to Metricon on Sunday for the Lions game and had the same experience from the club and ticketmaster when inquiring about tickets to tomorrow night's game. Based on that, have real concerns about getting to the Pies game as well which I'd assumed I'd be able to get a ticket to.

Like most, absolutely staggered this is occurring. Massive opportunity to grow the game in Qld being missed. And on a personal level members like me who pay for a full membership every year despite never being able to get to more than 1-2 games are missing out on a rare chance to see a few more games.

Gutted.

You are obviously not in Melbourne, 3 weeks into a 6 week Lockdown

I don't want to be near large gatherings of humans right now.

Sorry if that offends you.

Rubbish, its purely financial

Given that they are varying the attendance limits there is no reason other than money save for the argument that they are trying to prevent event fatigue leading to staff and public apathy towards the various social distancing rules.

If that is correct they should lock down the stadium and have say two crowd events (one at each venue) each week.

Unfortunately this virus has a long way to run (six months more plus).

Where I am there has not been a case for three plus months but the government just mandated masks when outdoors for everything. Masks aren't pleasant in 30 plus degrees with high humidity.Haven't quite gone with the local trend of wearing them in the car.

Stay safe SWYL... perhaps enjoy some youtube travel shows.I find it quite soothing.

It’s not easy DJ. I would have stayed in Thailand if i had any idea this 2nd Lockdown was going to happen.
$10 a night hotels in Koh Samui

SBS was good Last night. “Great Railways of the words” went through Thailand

Gave me some good ideas for next year!!

There's a guy who has been doing motor bike tours through Thailand including Koh Samui over the last few months. Very watchable. I'll PM you the link if you would like.

The railways of Thailand are quite extensive and great value.

Have done a few car trips from Malaysia into Thailand and really love it when you get off the highways. Crossing borders with a car in Asia is lots of paperwork though.

As you say... next year will be different !!!

Can some please explain to me why they're opening the GABBA for just 500 people?

May as well save everyone the trouble and play it behind closed doors.

Yes yes yes. Game at Metricon was ok. Staggering of rows actually was good. The loss was disappointing but great to get to a game.

AFL has missed a chance to promote the game.  Thursday night footy.  A quiet beer at the Pineapple and then wander across. Ffs.  Makes no sense to restrict crowd to 500. Better hope that Dees v Pies is setup for 10,000-12,000. Saturday night twilight blockbuster!!

Enjoy attending the game

I'm done with you

Well if I lived in Queensland and was lucky enough to score one of the 250 tickets allocated to Melbourne members I would. Being in Melbourne I'll have to settle with watching delayed with a scotch on the couch after the kids have gone to bed.

Nice knowing you too.

Not sure whether it was my whinging or not but someone was smiling on me today! I was one of the lucky ones that scored a ticket to the game tomorrow night!
I feel very lucky and grateful to be able to attend two games in a row....first time since 2018 when I traveled to Melbourne for both finals and then Perth for that prelim we won’t talk about!

I’m a very happy demons supporter tonight!

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
