The top five MFC personal let-downs by year in my supporting lifetime:

1.    1998 (Smash premiers Adelaide. Robbed by North's cosy Friday night arrangement with the AFL).
2.    2012 (Round one done. A continuation of the disappointment of the end of 2011 and a realisation we were stuffed).
3.    2019/2020 (Thought we were on track. Accepted excuses. Injuries. 6-6-6. Loss of confidence. Now what?).
4.    1988/2000 (Fate never gave us a chance. The first GF outing should have forewarned me as a new devotee).
5.    1994 (In alignment only to be injury-cruelled. Twenty-five years later and Jackovich is still the best time of my life).

Bonus round.

6.   1995 also sticks in my craw, more so than 2017. Bi-polar Demon's supporting life condensed into a single season.

The final 6 that year was just bizzare and the Crows got lucky

Hey Saty. I ordinarily let your odd ego-driven self-designated club-mascot baiting slide. But what about this topic do you think is set up as an additional reason to whinge and whine about the present? It's a forum to express our personal disappointment as MFC supporters over the years. Legitimate feelings. Tell us yours. It may be liberating. Have you ever felt sad or disappointed about our football team the Dees?

didn't lay a tackle in the first 15 minutes of the club's most important game for a decade.

supporters deserve the pain if we ever bought into this club's BS.

Yeah particularly 1905, I mean bottom again tsk tsk

It is a forum to discuss footy, which has been hijacked by a small minority of perpetual whinegers and whiners, we've played 3 games, repeat 3, lost to West Coast under strange circumstances, beat Carlton, if Tomlinson had kicked straighter we may have beaten Geelong

And unfortunately had too many players have an off day against Richmond

Interestingly some of the poorer performers were players clamoured for on here in Rivers, can be excused, Pickett, can be excused, Lockhart, 2 games in a row  and the midfield went handball happy

I was disappointed with the performance, but move onto the next one

I agree with most of this Saty. But it's okay to express your disappointment with seasons' past. Just try it. I did a top five.

I have to be careful, only negative views of the Dees seem to pass the mods muster these days

It is pointless exercise in my opinion to wallow in the past, I moved on to the Suns

I participated in something with the Club the day after we were smashed by 140 odd points by the Bombers a few years ago

Now that was an interesting day in the past

Another interesting fact post that game, surprisingly nobody died

Yep we were ripe and ready to waltz in to finals but, once again, Goody for whatever reason couldn't get them fired up for a big encounter.

Instead it was Bucks who got his charges fired up coming out all guns blazing in the first half.  It's a rinse and repeat story that sees us coming from a fair way behind at half time far too often.  This club is wailing / failing as we watch in 2020.

If Perty (and the board) doesn't put a rocket up Goody & the FD's khyber pass soon i'll spew up.

Sure, since you asked, I’ll add to the topic.

The Melbourne Football Club is the worst club in the league. This is a fact. The only measure of true success in our league is a premiership victory, and we have gone the longest without one. So yeah, fact.

We all obviously either really like or love the game itself, or we wouldn’t be on this forum. So a lifetime of watching this game we so admire, but without ever witnessing the actual result we all yearn for, has had a completely predictable, degrading effect on the mindset of the Melbourne supporter base. The ensuing negative, frustrated and defeated attitudes we all express here are not baseless, nor the result of people being weak-minded or lacking in male genitalia, as you’ve clumsily (and as pointed out, kinda in a really sexist way - girls are not inherently “weak”) inferred.

People here have more than a right to be fed-up with this club. And to be honest, the indiscriminate (and often strangely vitriolic) optimism you seem to taunt others with is not only unhelpful, but makes you come across as a little feeble of mind.

Bet you wish I just drove by.

This year we have played 4 games with

  • 3 of them against last years top 5 (Geelong #1, Richmond #3 and Premier, Westcoast #5) we've lost all 3.
  • 1 game against one of the other 12 teams (i.e. not in the top 5) in Carlton which we won.

So too soon to panic, as I'd not have rated us top 5 coming into 2020, but would like to think we can squeeze into the top 8 once the season's complete.

Beat Suns and Hawks, and we are 3:3 with only 2 of top 5 to play in the 11 remaining games, so its doable.

Loving the sunshine lollypops and rainbows @PaulRB

69 was an interesting one for me. I joined the cheer squad and match day was a lot of fun. Be there for when the gates open, rush to seats, even learned the words to the Cheer squad official ditty when the Police came to look things over

Cheer squad leader, I can clearly visualise him but name escapes me would ask of us.

What are pennies made of?

..........................................

Some of you may know the rest. I have too much respect for police now to repeat it.

As for the footy we lost the first seven straight then tidied uop a hapless Fitzroy. It was also the year I realised greg Parke was not better than Royce Hart, Blair Campbell was no match for KB and Ray Biffen was a tough son of a ...

We finished last but even as a 12 year old it had nowhere near the hurt and sadness I feel nowdays.

Just Data, without the overlay of 50 years of misery, and a small "healthy" dose of optimism. ;)

Based on rumours I've heard. I'm not saying it's absolutely 100% happening, but you're welcome to look up my track record if you wish.

I find it hard to argue with people who purposefully distort their use of data to their predetermined positions.

If you're going to quote Goodwin's record as backing your position, at least have the honesty to use all of his record at Melbourne, which is (33–36–0) (W-L-D) from 2017-2019.

And the only coach of our past 4 or more, to take us into finals...

Lots went wrong last year, much has been done to address it, only some of it was Goodwins responsibility.

So this year, we are 4 games into weird season having played 3 of the top 5 teams from last year, we sit 1-3...

IN MY OPINION - it is not the time to pull down the house.

Joy... just what we need is another period of destabilisation and disruption, after a poor run of 4 games. Not questioning your bonefides, more the sanity of those pushing those rumours.

Yeah, I'm not saying it's something I'm keen on or that it'll be helpful, but there are some very passionate and powerful Melbourne people who are as equally frustrated at the moment as some supporters and are seriously considering taking action from what I've heard.

To be fair, it's far more than 4 games though. It's as bad a 18 months as we've ever experienced, and that gets lumped onto the decades of frustration whether we like it or not.

The fact we haven't consistently performed since the 60s is the reason this kind of thing is never that far away.

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
