If there are changes, I'd expect Brown to come in for Melksham or Hannan with Fritta to be the 3rd tall and OMac to come in for Smith as a knockdown on Reiwoldt or Lynch. Lever to play as the floating defender. Jackson and Spargo emergencies

Brown, Hunt, Lockhart and Rivers. I think the selectors have gone mad during this covid season. We should play more youngsters. We will get smashed on Sunday.

I think Goodwin wants us to desperately play fast ball like Saints/Bris/Tigers but we don't have the skill or systems built in to do so. The one time we did versus Geelong it looked a touch sloppy but resulted in a Fritta goal.

I just have no idea what Goodwins plan is?

Anyways whatever, I'm going into all games expecting to lose

If we beat Tigers I'll be stunned

Spargo won't play.

It will be Brown or Jackson in for possibly AVB.

Goodwin spoke of continuity, so I can see us making just the one change and adding a little extra height to the side.  That's fine with me.

We can whinge about Spargo coming in all we like (even though he won't play), but Jones and Jetta were both way out of form and Bennell could barely get through 50% of a game while avoiding as much contact as possible.  I know that's to be expected after so long out of the game, but they clearly want him to get some of that confidence back before they give him another dip at AFL level.

Changes are fine by me as we're potentially adding in a tall player, which is what we need.

I think Jackson will play,  because the Tiges used 2 rucks the last time I saw them.

I haven't seen their lineup,  so I guess Jackson gives us more flexability.

Wow.  All the whiners queue up.  There has been HEAPS of commentary from inside the club that, if the complainers were to listen, might give a few hints about selection.  Goodwin - looking for consistency and small changes on a role by role basis.  Bennell now third in the line and has to work. Plapp - Weids working on his game and Will be ready when needed.  Brayshaw - the team know what goodie wants and are all aligned around delivering it.  Omac best on last weekend.  Spargo great in his role.  Jones body nearly back to full fitness.  Jetta - playing more like old Nev, but still a bit to do. Brown - kicked goals on the WE.  Anyone remember Spargo at his best?

Without track watchers to help us, we are further away from seeing who is in our out based upon training.  If your cognitive frame is the MFCSS, then you are not gonna like it.

But honestly?  There are really few surprises here if you tune in to what the club have said across the week.

While I'm far from confident, I highly doubt we'll be 'smashed'.  Our defensive unit, at the very least, has been terrific since we came back from the break.  I'd expect that to continue this week.

I mean if there’s one thing our forwardline is missing is undersized players.

Why the [censored] no Weid? And how are some of these guys being named ahead of Jones and Jetta?

Another puzzling team selection week.

That’s uninspiring. From that lot, I would like to see Jackson in for one the small/mid sized forwards and the rest can stay unchanged.

They pick them with a pin and blind fold.

To be fair, our back six has been good so it would be tough for Jetta to get a look in.  Jones was awful against Carlton so I'm not surprised that they haven't brought him back into the side just yet.

While I'd be happy to see Weid given a run, I think right now Brown would offer more forward, while Jackson can also ruck and then leave Tomlinson to play a full game in his natural position.

Spargo is a 'meh' selection but I highly doubt he'll play.

It looks like weideman is not required which does not really surprise me but I just cannot get my head around why we bothered re contracting last year

It's hard to disagree with them. Perhaps we are trying to keep his price down for 2021.

He is a young tall, and one who showed some good signs at the end of 2018.  With Hogan on the way out we needed to ensure that we kept those young players around.  I still have some faith left that we can turn him into a player, as he is still pretty young and some talls take more time than others.

The coaching staff must want him to work on some things before he gets a run in the seniors, and with a full list to pick from I'm not surprised that they might go for someone like Brown ahead of him at this point in time.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
