Excellent. We will now find out if he really wants to get better

Fair enough, is Jackson earning his spot too? Honestly from what I've seen the answer is no.

Jackson is getting a taste

The Weid is getting up early

5 years. It’s time to find out what he is made of.

How to destroy team culture 101.

'We picked this guy to get a taste'

'But we won't pick this guy because he hasn't earned it'

You of all people, the king of ranting and raving about our culture and history, should understand the damage gifting games does.

Make them all earn it.

Don't know about the impatient part. he's in his fifth year.

Tall players do take time.   You can't throw them out for that,  unless they aren't doing the right things.  Not all are immediate arrivals.

And we have seen his ability.

I would be expecting 3 years for a tall to show anything much, and 5 seasons to become a regular.   Anything before that is a bonus,  or the club has no one ahead of the player,  keeping them out.

Weide's approaching 23,  and has already shown a starring performance in a final.  Its a matter of getting his body fit and strong,  and then stringing games together,  to find form.

Gotta pick 22 players each week

The Weid was awful last year, he needs to kick bags of goals over a number of weeks, not just one performance.
Jackson can play a couple of Senior games with Gawn and then step back if necessary

Culture is on show tonight.

Exactly, we kept giving kids a taste and games on the back of "he's got great talent" for way too long, if Jackson isn't being picked because he is PLAYING BETTER than Weids then I can't get behind the FD logic.

It's about time Tommy was made to earn his place...Jackson has had one game.

Tom has probably played one good game in 18 months.

Analyse it all we want, but this year is different. It's not like we have a decent second tier to allow players to "earn a spot". Last weekend's scratch match was 14 a side! Weid can only do what he did in that game, but the FD will be going off training standards and gut feel as much as anything this year.

Yep. Weid did well last week but he has to keep doing it, if he wants to be the number one target.
The offer is waiting for him, because TMac is not a number one target up forward

Unless Tmac can rediscover his 2018 form we are practically rooted up forward.
Weed meh

Brown meh meh

Fritsch potential but with the other three underperforming he’s always gonna get targeted.

Have suggested this a few times myself.

Disappointed he isn't getting a game. He needs to step up this year but pretty hard to do that watching on the sidelines. It's not like we have an abundance of key fwds, put him in and let him show it. If not he'll be gone but I'd rather he was given the chance first. In also worried about chucking Jackson in too early. It's not like he's out there with a seasoned veteran who can help him hone his craft, TMac has no idea.

100% agree with this, without Tom having an impact this year I can't see us being much more than a bottom 6 side. Only way that doesn't happen is if someone else pops up out of nowhere to take Tom's place as key forward.

He’s clearly the new whipping boy

Watts 2017

Frost 2018

Weid 2019. It’s unfortunate because he’s got huge potential. IMO WE NEED TO PLAY HIM FOR THE NEXT 6-7 GAMES TO SAY “HERE IS YOUR CHANCE.
Yet Goodwin may see and entertain a trade opportunity here.

But Jackson can keep getting games at senior level without performing to 'get a taste'.

Double standards.

Yes talls are meh and rely on midsized forwards  for goals. Hope tommy mcd stands up

1-2 games for Jackson now is not going to harm him either way.
But the Weid is 5 years into his career and has still not cemented his position, and this is at the same time TMac is struggling.
Tells me the Weid is not doing as well as he could, OR the club want him to do his thing over a sustained period before he plays Seniors

When has the Weid played 2 good games in a row??

Mate, we don't know where the Weid is at (other than 5 goals in a scratch match) because we're gifting games to a kid who isn't ready yet.

Weid has just had his first reasonably uninterrupted preseason, they've given him a clear role, he's done it well (see the preseason game where he rucked) and they're clearly refusing to play him. Not even an emergency this week. As it stands it's looking like another case of the MFC draft obsession.

Why tell Weid he has to have a 'sustained period before he plays' and then turn around and tell Jackson he gets a few for free? That's what Melbourne has done for years when it was a trash club and you want them to do it again.

You tell me, when has Jackson played 2 good games in a row?

I am puzzled often by the way we do things.

Ask Goodwin why The Weid isn’t getting a game, i have given you my reasons, and that’s all they are.
You just don’t like what i said

Jackson is in, the Weid kicks with the morning dew

Weid played well from his games vs WC in 2018 to the Hawks Final. 4 games in a row.

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
