Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Goodwin Concerned About Cuts to Coaching Staff

The "basics", as you refer to them, will be the first to go. With reduced staff, do you think for one minute that they'll be looking at a specialist kicking or tackling coach?

Though my main concern would be the off-field st f: physical preparation, weights, rehab, etc. Just watch the increase in injuries.

a lot of the growth in coaching/football dept over the last few years has been to focus on those 1% advantage areas. i would argue that this has often been at the expense of the football basics . Focussing on basics doesn't need more coaches or specialist coaches. keep it simple (kiss) would make it easier on the players and they could spend more time on the footy skills side instead of the bs which most obviously get confused with anyway.

Cue outraged Saty charging in on his trusty white steed in 5..4..3..2..1..

Nah, wouldn't bother, this site is really becoming boring and tedious, same old same old repeated ad nauseam, reason I haven't been reading or been online as much

Goodwin knows the 1st quarter against West Coast wasn't good enough, we all do, let's see what is produced in the the games after June 11

This is still only footy, in the even bigger scheme of things these days, it's really not that important

100% agree.

Goodwin had 5 months to not just tinker with our game plan but to revolutionise it.

What did we dish up in round 1? The same inefficient, inaccurate, sloppy and mistake riddled football that we copped as supporters in 2019, but with only two players out.

Not good enough from a coach on an alleged $750-800K year. Lucky for him the game was quickly forgotten by the media and fans, amidst the beginning of the crisis.

You guys are complete morons judging everything on Round 1 no wonder you hide behind your computers and slag off on the Club contributing nothing nothing - complete morons dragging the club down - you would be same people if we had won saying we will win the flag - no idea no idea go and have another whiskey at Buller

I agree that the less coaches the but it will simplify things and make it a better. Let the excitement machines do what they do best and not over complicate it like Pickett and Petracca can do.

Round 1 was a garbage performance by the club.

The loss didn’t bother me as West Coast have an 80% winning record at Optus. It was the way we lost. Nothing changed from last year.

1) Dominating the opening minutes of the game, only to kick a bunch of behinds and letting the opposition off the hook. Then proceed to concede  an avalanche of goals.

2) Horrid and inefficient inside 50 entires. Kicks beautifully targeted to Hurn, McGovern and Barrass from minute 1 to final siren.

3) Bush league type errors and playing players that aren’t up to it. Eg- Spargo continually kicking it to the opposition all day.

4) Innaccurate shots for goal because we insist on kicking it wide to the pockets.

5) We held up the ball when we should’ve gone fast, and we went fast when we should’ve played tempo footy.

6) Letting the other side kick Coast to Coast goals because of our pathetic lack of pressure.

7) Our so called gun players such as Brayshaw and Petracca who just can’t get the best out of themselves under Goodwin. Brayshaw since round 1 2019 and Petracca  throughout Goodwin’s tenure.

It was essentially round 24 2019.

Hoping to see a far different and more efficient side for round 2.

All clubs are feeling the pinch, North coaching stand downs:

This comes as The Age has confirmed four coaches: forwards coach Brendan Whitecross, backs coach Jared Rivers, ruck coach Will Minson and academy coach Michael Firrito have been stood down by the club and will receive JobKeeper payments.

A source within the club has confirmed veteran coach Gavin Brown will fill in the roles with senior assistant Jade Rawlings.

“There was some reshuffling required in the footy department and the coaching department wasn’t the only area that was hit,” Rawlings told SEN’s Sportsday.

“We couldn’t not provide them with their physios and doctors and conditioning staff so we really prioritised that area and unfortunately we didn’t get all our staff back.”

“We still think we have a good area there in the coaching department. We have some staff we think are enough to provide for our players.

“Availability is going to be really key throughout this period. Now we’ve got them back, having our physios, massage, docs and our conditioning staff readily available is going put us in the best position for [a] successful season.”

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
