OK no correct answers yet, but am impressed with a couple of options put forward...Remember these are only MFC icons......

So I'll give you a couple more to see if anyone can get the answers....

1.    “I would have 100 shots a week at training….”

2.    “I train day on, day off.  Day on.  Day off….Todays’s day off”

3.      “ If blokes got in my way, I knocked them over…and sometimes it was a little too high..”

4.     "The old Melbourne’s gone….done and dusted.  Finished….and that will never reappear again"

5.     “Healy off,  Ellingworth on….bloody weak as [censored]…”

6.     “Any game against Collingwood, you had to get up…it’s a long week in football and every 2nd bastard you run into is a Collingwood    supporter..”

1/ Jacko?

2/ Lyon?

3/ Big Carl?

4/ ?

5/ Barassi?

1: Ross Dillon

2: Jim Stynes

3: Rod Grinter (second option Laurie Mithen; third option Alby Rodda - you can see I'm guessing)

4: Ian Ridley

5: Ron Barassi

6: Noel McMahen

And the one I put up: We didn't come to play - Neil Balme

Some more guesses

Number 1:

1.       “I would have 100 shots a week at training….” Allan Jakovich, Max Gawn

2.    “I train day on, day off.  Day on.  Day off….Todays’s day off” Shane Woewodin

3.      “ If blokes got in my way, I knocked them over…and sometimes it was a little too high..”

A: Rod Grinter.....correctly identified by  Left Foot Snap

4.     "The old Melbourne’s gone….done and dusted.  Finished….and that will never reappear again" Raul Poos

5.     “Healy off,  Ellingworth on….bloody weak as [censored]…”

A: R.D. Barassi:  correctly identified by  Roger Mellie

6.     “Any game against Collingwood, you had to get up…it’s a long week in football and every 2nd bastard you run into is a Collingwood    supporter..” Swooper

Another one:

7.

The voice became more agitated.  “Open the door – it’s Norm Smith”

I said: “Hell is that you, Red Fox?”

Norm put his shoulder to the door and it nearly came off its hinges.  He burst in and wrestled all 3 of us, and it bloody hurt too; we were bruised.  ….” None of you will ever refer to me as The Red Fox ever again!”

Who said “ Hell is that you , Red Fox?” thereby giving Norm Smith his nickname ? Tassie Johnson

OK, we will help you out a litte......

No 2.

“I train day on, day off.  Day on.  Day off….Todays’s day off”

Allen Jakovich in Garry Lyons book “The Demon Within”

I'll have another stab.

I would have guessed Max Gawn for question 1 but that has already been done. So my guess is Russel Robertson with a left field guess of Earl Spalding.

For question 6, was it Neil Balme?

I'm trying to go by the language being used. Is number 6 Mark Jackson?

OK, you have been kept in suspense, so here is one to help out:

No 6. “Any game against Collingwood, you had to get up…it’s a long week in football and every 2nd bastard you run into is a Collingwood supporter..”

A:  Allen Jakovich Demonland podcast 21 October 2017.       37.25

OK....here is the answer to the last one.

No 1. “I would have 100 shots a week at training….”

A:  Brad Green, Demonland Podcast 20/6/18

Small wonder that he was so good at shooting for goal.

Further help needed?

No. 7.  A:    Ian Thorogood.  From “The Red Fox” by Ben Collins

Thanks George, didn’t know about this. I’ll have to pick up a copy of the red fox. (Ian was my Grandfather).

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
