He didn't.  He's guessing.

Yeah sorry I did realise this. Just getting a bit tired of the guessing. Within minutes of hearing injury news its been either 'well thats his career done' or 'well thats him out for a month'. I guess its the MFC way to go straight to doom scenario.

I suspect only one of Bedford and Picket will play as will one of Weid and Brown.

Both Bedford and picket have already been announced as debutants

I feel you mate.  Plenty of amateur doctors post here.

From what I can gather Jones was going to train today to see if he was fit enough, but obviously they've given him another week to get over it.

Just to clarify for people who are just looking at the team sheet and aren't up to date.

- Bedford and Kozzy are in as announced

- Jackson was not announced to debut so will be an emergency

- Two bench players will be picked from Weid, Brown, Hore, Lockhart and Sparrow.

So it will be one of the two tall forwards and one of those backs I would imagine. Sparrow being emergency mid.

I'd say Lockhart and Weid will round out the team. Weid being the backup ruck.

Where did you read he was out for month?

As of yesterday he was listed as 'test' so I'd imagine he will be in line for next week.

Jones took aN accidental drive by kick to his calf in the last 10 minutes of the last Marsh game. He limped off and unfortunately it is still an issue. Odd it seems that match was played months ago but it was just 2 weeks?

Has an Achilles injury according to the MFC website.

Well that’s him out for a moth or more. That hurts us. More than people realise. Probably not so much against West Coast. In the next few games though

Achilles soreness rather than injury. Was listed as 'test' so don't reckon he'll be out a month.

On paper and over there, the Eagles will kill us.

Lucky we don’t play on paper.

Did you miss the big article where it said he's out for three months?

Yup, I did.

The MFC have been so poor on sharing this kind of info and there hasn't been much news asides from COVID 19 stuff that I've given up on checking the MFC website and even Demonland for actual player/footy news for the last week or so.

Actual footy will be a great break from the real world for a while, while it lasts.

No crowd buys us at least 2-3 goals

Big show of faith in the club for both to debut in the same game.

Good outcome and well deserved as both apear to have shown great application and have been quite impressive.  I'm just surprised we have gone with so many smalls.

It would be pretty hard to leave Lockhart out based on the form he has shown over the preseason I recon.

I remember the first night game we had against WC last year over there. From memory we were really undermanned and went over with a smaller side. I remember thinking we looked unrecognizable for three quarters, we took the game on literally every time running the ball through the corridor with link handball (also forward handball from contests) and we really had them for three quarters. But we tired and their experience wore us down late.

Will be interesting to see if we take some things from that game into this one with the small lineup. Fitter and quicker then last year.

I’m not with the shortened game speed will be king, plus they should provide us with plenty of forward pressure

Why are people saying we are too small?   Have they not watched footy the last 4 years and missed seeing Richmond dominate with their fleet of small forwards?

Just look at tonights game and you will see nothings changed -

Halftime

Castagna 2 goals
SHai Bolton 2 goals
Lambert 1
Rioli 1

Team selection was spot on.

What a pathetic answer, the club has hit all media channels to provide info, did you not watch Max on Facebook, the Inside Melbourne with the 3 Amigis etc etc  a cheap pot shot again

I wasn't necessarily taking a pot shot at the club, it was more just a matter of fact statement.  That's kind of the way it is at the moment.  By the same token, I'm also assuming why when he probably broke it a fortnight ago it's taken the club a whole fortnight to get this info out there.  But you know sheesh whatever, I'm over it, there is a lot going on and I'm sure the club has had other priorities and so long as we win on Sunday, that's the only news from the club I really care about, so GO DEMONS!

Are you for real? Was a completely reasonable comment from RBG.

Not for the first time you are well out of order.

I know I wouldnt say anything about a certain player so I won't

But HTF a slow,no skilled player, that plods gets a game and others with REAL TALENT miss out is perplexing! To say the least.

We will go nowhere whilst he is in the team IMV

I reckon we can win this one with all the factors in our favour No Crowd, Fitter than last year by a country mile, full compliment of player except Salem, Strong back 6, Mobile Fwd line, Experienced strong running Wingmen.

Carn the Dees.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
