looking forward to seeing the draw of where we play each game.

We’ll probably play 4 or 5 interstate games with a trip to Geelong and Tasmania.

Should be a joke but almost certainly isnt.

I know it's being overly cynical, but watch for the draw to be re-jigged so that the big clubs play home games AFTER the crowds are allowed back in.

One week at a time. IF we get to play WCE without their feral crowd maybe that is a win for us.

Richmond will play at least 12 or 13 MCG games.

As will Colonwood and Essedn

This should mean we avoid trips to both Fremantle and Adelaide right? Unless the AFL plan to bin our game in Alice ? From a financial aspect we would really need to keep Anzac Eve on that date ideally, Queen's Birthday and the game in Alice I think (which supposedly reaps us $500k).

I was looking forward to beating T.h.E. F.i.L.t.H. twice....

Excuse my ignorance because I’ve been at work and only just got home.

Is there any confirmed date yet as to when the new modified season will start?

I can’t see ANZAC eve going ahead with fans should they still be playing games at the point, so either way that one is a loss and the QB from many reports could be right in the middle of the worst of it all so games could be postponed. To that point I would be demanding that next year we get the gate receipts of both games unless they go ahead with fans.

I really hope we keep our Alice game but there could well be concerns about spreading the virus up that way and I’d imagine it could be devastating to communities out there for people that are already vulnerable in health.

Hi Pates. yeah, they are all fair points. This is where the people at headquarters will have to earn their soon to be reduced salaries. I don't envy them.

Richmond and GWS are the winners IMO. Only having to play the other top clubs once. Another flag for tigers, should the season go ahead.

On the off-chance they do end up playing a 17-round season, my gut feeling would be that we would keep our Collingwood, Adelaide and Fremantle home games - because Collingwood is on Queens Birthday, Adelaide is in the NT and Fremantle is in the first 4 rounds. This would mean we would lose the St Kilda and Gold Coast home games, and theoretically get an extra home game. Probably a win for us, because we'd avoid two interstate trips.

In reality, it would be a blessing in disguise if we lost the Collingwood home game if nobody could attend, if we were guaranteed it as a home game next season.

Anzac without the crowds is worth no more then any other game.

It will be interesting if there are games with crowds later, it should be 50/50 in gate takings, no matter who's home game, the draw will only be the same for the  the first 4 rounds the whole fixture, will totally change after that, so you can't say  who wins or loses at this stage.

Collingwood will get  queen's birthday next year as a home game Eddie will make sure of it.

Hi. I should have clarified that I meant on the assumption that we’d have the crowds back by that time. A big assumption, I know.

There's no way crowds are allowed back by Anzac Day. They've cancelled all Anzac ceremonies today haven't they?

This might allow us to negotiate with the AFL/Tigers/Pies to allow us at least one of Anzac Eve or Queens Bday next year so we won't have the feast or famine and will be guaranteed one of them each year. I'd push for anzac eve in 2021 because hopefully we'll have crowds back by queen's Bday (though who knows...)

The whole premise of sharing the gate year to year is that it’s a fair split between the two parties, if there is no crowd this year then at the absolute minimum it should be negotiated to be 50/50 next year and then it reverts back afterwards.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
