So this is the 'ideal model' in your opinion, post-covid-19?

Can't say I agree mate. All the fans of the teams that are gone won't just pick another team, they'll be lost to the game which means less revenue for the AFL on top of the losses this year.

no, i don't think it's the best model, just the 'best model' that the afl might be look at

Whether the GCS end up in Tasssie is a side issue.We all know that Melbourne cannot support ten teams.(Cannot think of another first tier sport anywhere in the world that has ten teams in a city.) So who would you pick as your dance partner. I think for us Carlton as it could be a meeting of relative equals.Geelong and the Bulldogs is a natural. Saints and North...????

The only team which is debatable is GWS. I think there is a future for them between Western Sydney and the ACT.

In a way that is why I picked them.It would be two stubborn beasts. Time that Carlton moved on from the Elliot years. Of the power clubs they are probably the most vulnerable.

The Melbourne Blues also has a certain MFC ring to it

Carlton have spent 23 years in the relative wilderness. I think they have learnt humility like us. As for the rest of the power clubs which do you suggest.

Deep down you know it makes sense. We just struggle from one debt laden crisis to another while the power clubs march on.

Alternatively we could just join the amateurs or similar. You'd still have your club.

It is really pleasing to see that people are STILL buying memberships to support the club.

Since last Saturday 317 people have effectively made a "donation" to the club, to keep it alive.

Total as of today: 37,888

The world is in a bad state. To lose our footy club on top of everything else we've already lost and will lose, would be devastating.

I for one would be lost to the game if we ever folded or merged. I could never mine the same depths of disappointment or reach the same fleeting heights following any other side.

I believe people are dwelling too much on worst case scenarios at this stage with too many unknowns to play out. Let’s see what happens first. If the season can get going again and completed for 2020 there is a good chance it will all be back to normal or at least a viable competition next season. GWS and GC are the clubs with the most to worry about because they are expendable and few will mourn their loss.

Had this calamity happened before expansion, there wouldn't be a Gold Coast or Greater Western Sydney and it's unclear whether AFLW would exist either. A couple of Victorian clubs, too, would be in danger of disappearing or being relocated to Gold Coast/Tasmania.

I bought a 3 game membership for someone in my family basically as a donation.

Every little bit helps.

Carlton just announced the end of its alignment with the Northern Blues due to cuts in the soft salary cap.

(reported in the Age)

Not sure if it is permanent but the Casey relationship could be under pressure as could the whole VFL comp in the years to come.

PS we knew that there were problems with the AFL website but still showing the countdown clock for this weekend's matches is a little strange !!
