This might not be a fair thing to say but I feel like Hunts good periods have coincided with the club being poor and his speed being an exciting change up to the usual slow efforts from others. I put Frosty in a similar category albeit he did play well during the latter part of 2018 as well. 

I hope for Jayden’s sake he’s able to find a next level otherwise I think he’ll be left behind.

It should also be said that most premierships are built on how good your best 25 is and how those who are in and out play their role when they are given the chance. 

It may well be he falls into that category.

I suggested in a previous similar thread last year that his best position could well be on the bench. He can then come on and provide relief or instant energy in the half backline, wing or forward half and run the opposition ragged. Whether he needs to be settled into a role or whether he would relish the challenge of making an impact wherever he's required, we in the outer sanctum wouldn't really know.

He does have skill although it is inconsistent at best, he is courageous and he can provide some more outside run that may still be an area of concern for us. And if he can regain some confidence which seems lacking at this early stage of the year, then he can still be a weapon. Put him on the bench and give him full licence to be an impact player in bursts wherever he's required. It can be an important role.

I would play him this weekend to give him a chance to get some momentum and to let him know he is still very much in the mix. The arrival of Langdon and Tomlinson and the expected development of others does leave him a bit vulnerable for a best 22 position, but he also does have some X-factor that can be used explosively at the right times.

It is up to the coaches to help him to be the best he can be, the rest is up to him.

With injuries a fact of life, it’s now a requirement to have ‘backup players’ I assume the powers that be have Hunt as either in their best 22 or to replace someone in the forward line (based upon last year) in case of an injury

Given our well noted disposal and skill problems, I don't think just being fast is enough to keep you safe anymore, which is why I think the Frost example fits Hunt for now. He'll get a chance to show he can be more than that this year, so it's a big year for him in that way IMO.

Agree with this. It's all good and well to be fast and all, but like Frost, Hunts field kicking is very hit and miss at times.

Unfortunately Hunt doesn't really have any other tricks other then run really fast in a straight line. Still feel his best position is down back.

I didn't mind Hunt as a hit up, medium forward, either in the pocket or on the flank. Knew where to lead, courageous and quite a good set shot.

Can he recapture some good form?

I don't think we will always have our 'best 22' forwards on the park or in form, so I see a fit and ready Hunt as getting about 6 AFL games this year, mostly as a depth player.

Having said that, I'd love to see him in a purple patch challenging players such as Melk, Spargs and even Fritter for their spots. Nothing like competition at selection to keep a player honest!

I understand that and have posted 25 players in that list, I also believe the Wagners, Joel Smith and young Rivers are ahead of him.

Hunt is not fit enough obviously. He just has to up his levels.

He needs both to be spot on or it will be a VFL Season for him

Was key player in 2 of our wins last year.

Given some of the drafting/trading and his contract running down he'll need a good year which will hopefully spur him on.

Hard to argue with that.

At point he was a best 22 lock. That is no longer the case.
