Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I sincerely hope he can regain his zip and bounce .... can anyone remember the details of the injury that knocked the stuffing out of him?  My recollection is vague.

My memory - which isn't remotely reliable - was that it was from a big tackle v the Crows, maybe on Jacobs during that famous win in 2017. And demonstrates some of his worth off hb not currently being credited.

Every year we have a potentially star  player “at the crossroads” and sadly Jayden looks like this year’s candidate.   He certainly needs to do a lot more that grab the ball and run, however fast he can do that.   Different build but like Frost in many respects.

Round 8, 2017 vs Adelaide. He ran full-tilt into the shoulder of Crouch and was out cold. I’m not sure if I buy the idea that he lost his mojo due to that incident though. He played solid games after that. I think we’re just looking at a textbook form-slump.

The torpedo was a fluke and we all know it. (Don't get me wrong it was great but we can't judge him on that) The rest of his kicking is awful, his poor decision making down back meant he couldn't remain. Once teams stopped him from running he rapidly declined. He got moved forward and contributed but only because there where players missing.

He kicked a pretty good long goal under pressure to get us over the line in one of our few wins last year (against Carlton if I recall correctly).  In general, I thought he was decient as a forward at times last season and could be difficult to stop once he got on a role.

I'm hoping he can re-find some form and or somethings click into place for him, because I think he has something to offer.

Everyone talks about his pace,  but his pace is never damaging so becomes completely pointless. What does he achieve with his pace? Never breaks lines and release team mates, or create overlap.

He runs in straight lines, no lateral movement which makes him predictable

He wasn't too bad last year as a pressure forward, but the year before that really struggled.

He may get his chance with injuries, management of Pickett and if Bedford struggles to come on this year.

It may well be Jayden's last though. Let's hope he can prove me wrong here.

He's struggled under Goodwin.

His set shot is strangly better than his field kicking. But I think as a forward he plays too much like a key forward for his size. He seemed to do most his good work on the lead last year. He's competing with Fritch/Melksham as a player who can be a lead up/mid sized forward option. But both of those players are a class above him and you could probably say Vanders could play that role too. This is all assuming pettracca plays majority midfield minutes and we dont play all 3 of Tmac, Weid and Brown...  Unfortunatly he's skill set as a forward is not really what we need, just too many players infront of him. We need a player who is more dynamic at groundlevel. thats why we a frothing at the mouth to see Pickett out there even if he's not quite ready.

One thing we could always rely on is Jayden giving his all whenever he's on the park so if he does get another chance I hope he takes it. His attitude and effort in the red and blue will never be questioned.

I thought he did really well last year in the forward line, but as others have said, that wasn't from design, rather necessity. And with players that we've brought in and those that were injured, I can't see him holding a spot down there.

The video posted above really does show what we loved from him, that run of 30-40m instead of a kick and breaking the lines. I hope he can become a semi-main stay and improve his form, because I can see another team picking him up and getting from him the Hunt that we want.

Needs to win back his spot as a half back flanker if he’s to have any future.

Rivers is already ahead of him for a spot there.  James Jordon too.  And now Pickett and Bedford are ahead of him at small forward .

We would need another terrible injury run for Hunt to get a game.

Getting trialled on the wing. I don't think he's had the endurance for that role before but if he's built his tank it could be where he fits in.

Watching that highlights video from 2016 reminds me of a theory about Hunt I've had for a while in that he needs to get back to his junior tennis days and get his lateral movement back.

Not only did he have brilliant burst speed he also had the ability to quickly turn and hit top gear. He seems to have lost that evasive ability the last couple of years.

No lateral movement either, rarely is able to evade opponents.

I think this is his major weakness, apart from kicking to position.  He doesn't have the tricks, despite his speed to evade an oncoming tackler.

His best football is played off half-back, but he hasn't been back of center for three years.

A bit like Fritsch playing in defence, the coaches have looked at his skillset and have been playing him out of position to fill a need.

Would like to see him breaking lines of half back again.

The kid in that video is an AFL player with great pace.

Obviously he is either down on fitness or confidence.

Once he regains one or both he will be back.

You don't just lose your talent overnight.

It's not a bad idea though. We need line breakers and gut runners off half back, which rules out Rivers and Jordon for the time being. That's part of the reason we seem to have thrown Harmes back there.

We need a few options off half back, so having Hunt in form is important for depth and strategic flexibility this year.

Hey DD - I always enjoy your posts and positivity, but in this instance I think the discussion is still valid.  While he played okay at times last year, and was able to hit the scoreboard more than previous years due to his move to the forward line, I think the question around his future in the side is fair.  I'm not going to bag him, but his career seems to have stagnated and watching him not get selected last week and then play yesterday is proof of this.

I'd love him to work his way back into the side as he does have some handy attributes, but it seems that many others have gone past him on the pecking order.  He has a big year ahead.

No one is slagging him off on here or getting personal regarding Hunt. Some of the discussion on here has been honest and constructive. Annoys me when people just come on here and see it as "bagging players" out when reality is, it's an open and honest discussion about Hunt moving forward for 2020. Its a football forum right?

I honestly think if he is to win his spot back he needs to go back to being that dashing half back flanker. While he has good moments up forward, a fit and healthy forward six means he gets squeezed out. Especially with Hibberd getting towards the end, there is a spot up for grabs there for whoever wants it.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
