Goody could have got his facts a bit more accurate. It was 2012/13 we were terrible under Neeld. In 2011 we were a lot better than last year under Bailey and were looking quite good at times!

We were better in 2011 than 2019 but that's like saying 2019 was better than 2013.

Much of 2011 was an illusion. We would smash very average teams but any team that was finals caliber gave us a bath. It was an awful team with a coach that happened to have great offensive structure. He got the best and worst out of a [censored] awful team in what was at the time a [censored] terrible organisation.

Last year was poor decision making and management but hardly a reflection of the entire business.

186 was the end of the end. 
The period leading up to that day was basically us tracking no different to any developing team. Some awesome highs (wins against the Crows and Dockers of around 15 goals and a strong win against Essendon), some shockers (11 goal pantsing against the Dogs, the match against the Eagles where they set a record for inside 50's, a spanking from Collingwood) and matches that were thereabouts (the draw against Sydney, the win against Brisbane where we skulked over the line). 
186 was the day when the scab was ripped off and all the pus came oozing out. There was no point pretending that the club wasn't fractured anymore as it was plain to see.
Bails got the best out of what he could. He was coaching with one arm tied behind his back. That period should not reflect on him.

I remember at the time I had been travelling in India and I was without funds. I found a rotten Durian fruit ,that was hidden under a dog that had been dead for several days in the hot sun.The Durian asked me about Melbourne under Mark Neeld and how we reached such a place in our journey.I explained to the durian that karma had visited us since the sacking of our great guru Norm Smith and that all attempts at re-incarnation since that time had failed.The Durian looked upon me sorrowfully and said with a kind and sincere expression-"You guys stink so bad that all you have left to talk about is the Flower with the enormous heart". The Durian then boarded a very overcrowded bus.

"Where are you heading Durian ,with your fecund knowledge?"

"To Hawthorn Biff-the reality bus journeys to all places in time".

Like us sharing a sleeping bag with a homeless drunk on a cold windy night camped under the Bolte Bridge flyover. The only comfort and pleasure is from us sleeping on the lee side of the wind.

I question Goodwin's loyalties to the Club ... is he even qualified to represent the MFC despite being the Coach? Imagine Barassi saying something like this! Certain things may well be thought, but certain things remain unsaid by the elite (eg: RDB, RF, PR, etc).

ahhh 186...i remember the day well. I was in Koh Samui, Thailand and had ventured to some sports bar on the main road, footy jumper on, looking like a right Aussie yobbo. I made acquaintances with a couple of elderly ladies, who had clearly ventured from their 5 star accommodation and were far away from their usual seats on the balcony of the MCC. 

We spent the pre-game talking about season '87 and Robbie Flower, Jimmy and days gone by. By halftime we were a morbid gathering. These ladies were as passionate as I and could not believe how pathetic we were that day. It jiust got worse and worse. I just kept ordering Chang Beers to numb the pain.

They left at 3/4 time and I sat there, alone, watching what I thought was the death of my club. Despite the beautiful surrounds of Chaewang beach, I'd never felt so low as a Dees supporter. A hip flask of Sang Som later and I was  more jovial, until the resort I was in started playing the replay on the Australia Network, across all four TV's in the bar and poolside. Will never forget it. Clearly I should have drunk more to erase what I had witnessed.

I remember it well too.
I was living in a dingy apartment in Ballarat at the time, where my neighbor across the road was an ice dealer who had a variety of 'colorful characters' visiting him at all hours of the morning and night (mostly when I was sleeping). The other neighbor was a nice enough bloke, but tended to smoke weed and blast Pink Floyd's 'Comfortably Numb' at 3 in the morning.
As you could tell, my nerves were generally shot living in that development known as 'Melrose Place'. And then came 186 on the day after the 24 hour party people had spent all night screaming at each other in the process of making their purchases.
I didn't have cable, so I initially planned on going to the Bluebell Hotel in Wendouree to watch the match. I refrained as most of our trips  to Kardinia Park, as if defined by some latent metaphysical principle, ended in 10 goal defeats. I thought I would save money on beer and food by steering clear.
When I finally saw the score, I actually had to pull up the calculator function on my computer. It really until the next day when the kids and other staff members at work started giving me stick that the reality sunk in that the loss really was that bad. I, like others, thought Bailey needed to be sacked. However, little did I know what was going on behind the scenes.
All in all, a bloody s***house day for any Demon fan. 
Note: The bit about the apartment wasn't @Biffen style pizz taking.
