I'll be going, I'm not sure how useful I'll be at identifying players as I'm not a standard track watcher. But I'll do my best to give a run down of what I see.

Unfortunately our players are dropping like flies at the moment with niggles and set backs so I think we'll be putting forward a team that's a bit reminiscent of last year. Brown/Wieds will now probably share the FF role with Tommy given some precautionary rehab time for his ankle and knee, Jackson may have to jump straight into rucking duties, do we give Bradtke a run as well?

I wonder whether Tomlinson's flexibility will mean we play him in defence for periods.

I’m not even sure he’ll play.

He’s spent almost the entire pre season in rehab, aside from the last 3 or so weeks. Whether that’s enough to get a game??

Possibly, depends on how much loading and whether Burgo thinkgs he's got enough of a fitness base behind him. We're a little light on troops as well so we might need to play him if he's considered "fit".

So for curiousity's sake I had a look back at our JLT series in 2018, I couldn't recall how we went. For those that can't remember we thumped North by 53 points and then had a 26 point win over the Saints (3 quarters of good footy but let them back in the game in the 3rd quarter by taking the foot off/throwing players around).

A few things stood out from what I read, first off our team for the first JLT was not too far off our best 22. Sadly that won't be the case this coming weekend. TMac and Hogan played together and played well.

The following week we were again not too far off a best 22 with noticable outs being  Viney, Lewis, and ANB. I guess my point being that the same team that played the week before were able to gain a little cohesion from playing together again.

Overall we also had two good wins to start off our year, which I feel set us up with confidence for a good year. Now I'm not saying that winning these upcoming pre-season matches are the be all end all, but I really think that getting any kind of win on the board early will help restore some of the confience we lost last year. it's also important getting match fitness into key players. So it looks like this week we might be a bit light on the troops vs Adelaide; May, Gawn, and TMac being particularly big outs (in both being large KPP and important to the team). Also Brayshaw, though I'm less worried about him because he's still able to maintain his fitness.

I think we have to get a minimum of one win from our "official" practice matches for the boys to go into the year with something positive to build on and I really hope those I named just above are able to get in at least one of the official games before the start of the season.

2pm according to the fixture pinned to the side of Demonland. Have you never scrolled down that far?

you'd think that Friday practice match vs the Bombers will probably only have about 6 MFC players in the team if most of the squad are playing the next day vs the Crows, and also with a fair chunk of players still not looking ready yet.

Perfect chance to get some game time and fitness into him.  He can play a half this week, three quarters the next etc.  Whether that is in the Marsh series or in the games against the Bombers and Kangas, there is time to continue to build his fitness base for the season.

Does anyone have an update on Petty? I believe he was injured/ in rehab a while ago but I think he will be a very important player for us this year. I rate him extremely highly and think his value is even greater considering a likely delayed start for May

All we have been able to ascertain is that it is a groin injury. Not much other information nor a timeline has been given.

At training last Wednesday he wasn't even running.  I'd say he's a long long way away but I'm only guessing.

I'm wondering what the point of this fixture this, unless it's actually Casey Demons V Essendon's VFL side.

There will be bugger all MFC players (due to injuries) aside from a couple of kids and perhaps a Tomlinson and Spargo who've been in rehab for a chunk of pre season.

Damn.  I had him in my Round 1 team, along with T Mac of course. And both are injured.

If we played mostly Casey players, while giving others a run to get the fitness into their legs, then I'd be happy.  Even if it's 5-6 Melbourne players, it could make all the difference.

I'd say given both teams extensive injury lists it's likely to comprise mostly of VFL players and I assume even before the carnage this was the case.

Jim Carrey Chance GIF

I agree with Lloyd Chistmas above, It would mean so much  if we can get a win on Saturday.

Sounds like Adelaide are near full strength while we'll have as many as 9 missing from our potential best 22 if we go ultra conservative.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
