Different project, but the same players....

This is closer to the reality - there is no way we can raise $100 million from members for the enitire project. More like Club/AFL $25 mil and the MFC members $25 mil. Government will be involved. For example, if it is the CRRT that will be resposnioble for completing the two ovals proposed, then government money would go straight to another government statutory entity (CRRT), and not to the MFC. At the end of the day those ovals will be community assets and the MFC will get the 15-20 hours agreed we need as part of our lease agreement with them.

we have no chance of government funding of this projet in my view. Political Optics would be terrible

I’m told the financial modelling has already been confirmed which is a mixture of State, Federal, Club, Benefactors and A significant naming rights sponsorship. The racecourse trust have given their approvals. We are awaiting on contracts being signed and there is no set timeline for that. This is the announcement we will hear at the AGM, unless something progressed prior too which I doubt.

I'm not seeing the AFL on your list of contributors. Surely they will be coughing up?

Waverley on Demons' radar as new full-time base remains a...

Melbourne and Richmond are weighing up a short-term move to Waverley Park

I can just see it … tigers will go to Waverley & Caulfield will just drag on & on to fall over due to zip funding from a broke state gvt

It is the only stand alone option of the three that have been mooted.

The first to me always seemed impractical.

The buildings can be totally fenced off from the rest of the area, excluding the ovals of course, with it's own separate access to the adjoining streets being Neerim Road and Queens Parade.

So, it's the bit between Glen Huntly Park and Queens Road with an existing entrance off Neerim Road, where there's some old stables and machinery storage atmo? Great. Officially an 11 minute walk from mine... Jeez, I hope they have a bar...

Only hope we have is:

Sign all members up to MRC.

Call an extraordinary meeting.

Take over Caulfield, Sandown and Mornington.

I'm in.

Does that mean we are building next to the current glen huntly park oval? Any chance of developing that oval into a future aflw / vfl venue post casey deal?

People in the area are convinced that Glen Eira has the smallest amount of public green space of any council area in Melb. Can't quite believe it given how green it is, but there you go. Local member was even against MFC taking a spot in the Caulfield redevelopment for a while, arguing that public space should not be handed over for private use, though that seems to have gone quiet. I'd say there's zero chance of any existing facilities being usurped without violence.

So, I'm sayin' there's a chance..... 😉

No? Course maintenance compound, for which alternative premises need to be found?

Don't think our stuff will need all that space....

You are as usual wrong . The community usage aspect of the base is always keeping it within the model for Govt funding. . Probably Fed State and local.

Most d/Lers are forgetting or ignoring that it would not be being built if not for the community aspect .

Roll on Caulfield keep your momentum and shut up the naysayers.

And s we hike I am gloating we will make the 10 and play on the wildcard round at a minimum in 2026. Two of our forwards will kick between 40 and 50 goals. Fritta and may be Kossie. And Roo nearly 40 goals. Langford and Lindsay plus Steele will be great mids, Windsor a revelation from the centre plus both our half backs will attack and ensure connectivity with our forwards.

Onley and Matthew’s will be good and Taylor will build a good season progressively.

Of the older brigade Gawny Disco AMW plus CJ will be stars. And we will beat the Pies at long last this KB.

Not sure about our odds but get on for a sneaky collect in 2026.

Go Dees

This makes no sense. Its pretty straightforward for the State and Federal Government to announce the funding along with tge statement that Melbourne, the oldest sporting club in the world has the worst facilities and has receieved the peast funding in the league, and that thid announcement brings Melbourne in line eith the other clubs. Addituonally it will provide more soace for the existing codes in the MCG Precint and also support the MCG redevelopment.

Yes and I am about the same distance and really excited to go to training more often, as it will coincide with my retirement.

The added benefit will be an occasional hug from Ghosty.

Hopefully they will have a small cafe and track watchers will be able to have a coffee and discuss training.

Weren't we hinting at some big news with Caufield a couple of months ago? Not sure what happened there. Would be pretty flat if we don't get any update at the AGM.
