I know. Why dont we ever hear about that stuff?

First world problem.

Geelong players are chauffeured via helicopter. It started with that numbskull Newman

Anybody heard a whisper about the proposed Caulfield Training facility.

There's to be an announcement about an announcement very soon or maybe a bit later, but soon ; sometime before Easter/KBW/GF/Christmas ( insert year of choice ) ......

The old adage no news is good news definitely does not ring true here.

I was definitely in favour of replacing the likes of Pert and Roffey due to their lack of progress regarding the home base. Guerra in particular and Smith come in chests beating, yet it’s as quiet as it has ever been.

Honestly us Demonlanders could probably do a better job at getting this whole saga moving in a positive direction. [censored].

Agree that the lack of any information from the club is frustrating to say the least.

In fairness there is no point giving updates until it’s confirmed.

i think, as has been pointed out a few times (by yourself, i think?), the announcement of anything - be it progress or it being doa - is effectively out of the club's control

i'm hopeful, as ever, but not expectant, as always

mfcss writ large - when things are glum there's worse to come!

I disagree...

There's undoubtedly ( hopefully) a process in place. This will have milestones.....

Currently we have only ...... millstones

Yes 😄

Don't leave us guessing!

Glad that you asked.

I get the impression that the government would like everyone to be supportive when an announcement is made, and one of them isnt at the moment. I believe that is the MRC.

More talks were scheduled for later this week, so it is still in progress.

Was Bayley Humphrey spotted getting a physical at our future facilities?

Not pointing this at you WWW, but that’s rubbish. The club can provide an update without going into specifics or commercially confidential information.

Agree Danny.

You could even say exactly what we would like to ultimately achieve, or are hoping for and then say of course this is subject to further negotiation with the relevant parties, but at the moment all the members are getting is crickets.

This has been going on for years and while I am still confident of its success, the club has largely ignored the members for most of that time.

This aspect can only be viewed as poor communication with the supporter base.

The “ trust us” mantra has obviously worn thin with many supporters, over years and years of failure by several Boards, in achieving a long term state of the art home club base.

A photo of a footy with fingers crossed painted on it, placed on the grass inside the race track where the ovals will hopefully be, would even be good at this time.

PS. I again have a horse nominated to run at Caulfield on Saturday and if it does, I will try and hunt down a few MRC committee people for any scraps of info.

The club has given us zero in terms of "trust us"

I have zero confidence in anything they say and haven't for years.

perhaps a mafia style threat/strong arm would be in order 😉😂
"the training facility goes ahead or else the bunny gets it" 😂

There's that one in The Godfather?

Certainly apposite.

Though perhaps a tad strong...

Their seem to be some pretty smart people on our board with knowledge in building and development, to be honest at this point I couldn’t care less if there companies get the go ahead to build it, would happily support a conflict of interest to get it done.

Nothing particularly salacious, they just can’t agree on a location. The sale of land to Mount Scopus complicated everything.

From what I understand MRC have one site in mind and the MFC another. the one the MRC have in mind looks the better of the two to my eye but it might involve shared facilities (only speculating but perhaps that is why MFC prefer the other site?).

Already mentioned in this thread is that further complicating all of this is that it is a negotiation that spans 3 parties, not 2.

Incorrect.

Maybe they feel a public announcement committing us to Caulfield doesn’t help their position in negotiations?

Feasible they are telling the trust/MRC ‘it’s either the site we want (or site you want but with fewer parties sharing the facilities) or we go to Waverley or back to the drawing board’.

We will or maybe be leasing an area from the Trust.

The school and the racing club have nothing to do with our negotiations.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
