A sizeable number of the Population are racist, some countries have higher ratios than others but humans are still basically tribal/racist.

I dont ever see that changing in fact it is probably getting worse.

I have ( because there is little I can do about ) accepted that these things will keep happening.

i just voice my disapproval and get on with life.

Agree with most of your podt OD, although I think it's slowly improving but it's going to always be there unfortunately.

You , rjay and dc have brightened my day PSD however I must move in different circles because I don't see improvement.

However you all cannot be wrong so I will try harder to see it.

I see it in the younger generation OD, although I must say I think we see and hear of it more often with social media providing a platform for cowards.

It was always there before just we didn't see it reported as much and people spoke against it a lot less because unfortunately it was accepted in certain circles

They're the latest lot of pejoratives trotted out by the right,  in the vein of "politically correct" as an insult.

It might still take some time for you to see why things are what they are globally. Racism , immigration etc are not left/ right issues as much as the left wishes they were.

Not all conservatives are racist nor  are all left wingers pure of heart.

Controlling speech Is no solution.

Political correctness is still a modern evil.

Despising political correctness does not make someone a racist.

There is a nuance that gets lost by the “woke”.

I would like to think that under PM Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand is improving as a destination of preference for a lot of people from other places around the world. I have heard it mentioned internationally as a peaceful place, especially since what happened and the way it was handled. Not so much Australia any more......i have been there and i know the history, especially J Cook.

What is political correctness 'Biffen'?

Can you define it?

To me it seems like some catch all for anyone who doesn't like a particular view.

I’d describe it as an attempt to control speech and in doing so to imply a sense of moral superiority by the controller.

You know like that fraud Trudeau who corrected a guy that said mankind by saying “ we say peoplekind now” .

The same guy that got around India in traditional Indian attire for weeks then later got caught out in “brown face” twice.

It’s a symbolic hypocrisy mostly used by mostly white people who carry needless guilt or shame and project it upon others.

Hope I cleared that up.

It will continue to get worse thanks to social media.  These people now have a platform to share their 'views' to millions of people and, thus, the above happens far more than it should.

It's disgraceful behaviour, but what can we do about it?  Everything put in place doesn't necessarily seem to be working all that well.  We continue to bring more and more attention to it, yet it seems to be happening more than ever.

Sadly I agree 100%.

But at the same time social media is providing the vehicle to bring it all to the surface. It’s ugly and distasteful but people are being exposed and this exposure is having a far reaching effect on current generations.

It will never stop in my opinion but it’s certainly shrinking at an increased rate thanks to social media.

In this particular case (Liam Ryan)...do you think it's ok for someone to say what he or she said or under freedom of speech are they free to say whatever they want?

Sorry, I think you are forgetting the old poitical correctness (which most of us oldies can recall) that preceded the new PC. That speech control  washed over many of us as 'natural', just as a lot of modern PC probably washes over many youngsters.

Of course anything can be taken to extremes - in fact I'm reading a book by that notorious left-winger Ben Elton who takes the [censored] out of such extremes, but is really satirising the rise of social media manipulation.  But I believe many people who whinge most about PC are simply conservatives who at bottom either dislike or are a best uncomfortable with changing attitudes that many others see as progress to a nicer world.  Calling something PC is often just an easy put-down you reactionary trogdolyte (see what I did there....?)

As for Trudeau, the fact that years ago he was in 'brown face' and he now proclaims liberal views, does not make him a hypocrite.  It simply shows his and society's views as to what's insulting have changed. He'd be a hypocrite if he wore 'brown face' today.

devil's advocate here.

so why is it ok now for those of the neo political correct to call for the removal of statues (etc) for historical figures whose behaviour mirrored society's views at that time?

I don't really need an answer

The people we should really fear as those who want to rewrite history. It should be there warts and all.

Change is frustratingly glacial, and experiencing an unusual amount of turbulence of late. But I’m heartened by a lot of kids I know and their general lack of prejudice compared to the vibe of the playgrounds in the 80s. Australian society needs to be vigilant about it’s education system. The idea of living amongst a (further) under-educated population is one of the thoughts that keep me up at night. The other is our forward line.

It will never change.    Humans are humans.  We are all deeply flawed.

We might be deeply flawed 'Jako' but I prefer not just giving in.

Things do change no matter how slowly, the optimist in me is hopeful.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
