We should bid pick 3 on this kid. As we rate picks 3-7 equally it makes sense to.

A. Henry is better then Weightman

B. It could force Freo to chew up pick 7 on a match which would bring our pick 8 forward by 1 (Possibly resulting in a pick 7 for Serong instead of Weightman)

C. A Henry/Stephens combo looks juicer then a Young/Weightman Combo

D. Will stop risk of Freo and GWS pick parking around us

E. Freo May [censored] themselves when we start giving Henry attention and offer 7/10 for 3 and 2020 2nd rounder.

If we see the talent difference between Henry to Weightman as being greater then the difference between Young and Stephens then it’s a no brainer.

Best Small forward and Winger in the draft to the Dees, yes please. 

What is wrong with taking Ash/Young/Serong at three and then Weightman at pick 8? Why fuss with the above? If that is what we want then bidding on Henry doesn't change that.

Henry will be a star; Weightman might be similar to Jack Higgins. Henry is a top 10 pick; Weightman probably between 14-20.

Is he good enough to bid on at pick 3? If Freo don't match we get the draft best small forward, if they do then we take who we want at 4 and continue as per before but with Freo's pick 7 eaten up.

I'd take Henry at 3, if not then we get Young for the first dance and bugger up Freo, with a better chance at Kemp at 8

A little too clever by half perhaps, but not a bad line of thinking if we could pull it off tbh.

If it's Henry, he should be selected. I'd be wrapped if we got him if he's considered 3rd best. If not, no point risking a top 3 pick on the hope our bid is matched. Same with Green

Even if it isn’t matched, we get best small forward in the draft and can take a Stephens or Kemp at 8 to balance it out. Need to look at it holisticly and not just the pick in isolation.

There would have to be a bit of going home risk in 3 or so years with him, esp. coming from a small country town.

The club will take best available at that pick.

If they selected Henry at 3 I hope it would because he's the best draftee at 3. That he is a small forward of which we have a need is a bonus. We also need a running half back with sublime vision and foot skills (Young). A burst midfielder with speed comparable to Dangerfield would be handy too (Kemp)

Personally, ATM i don't think Henry is the 3rd best in the draft. He's exciting and looks promising, though

Maybe we bid on him with 8?  Given the talent thereabouts, we get exactly who we want with essentially the first live pick of the draft, then see what plays out.  We ca take our time now to get that first pick right, then have a plan for what emerges at 8.  After that, we can go to the pub.

No we trade 3 for GWS's 6 (plus the best deal we can get e.g. next year's first rounder and anything else).

We then use 6 (and whatever else from received from GWS) to trade for Freo's 7 and 10.  Then we pick the three kids we want with picks 7, 8 and 10 - we miss a couple but there doesn't seem a clear consensus on the order of them in any case.  

Worst case scenario if GWS or Freo don't trade and don't match our bid, we end up with Greene and/or Henry - very unlikely and not a bad outcome in anycase!

My thinking for bidding on him with 3, rather then 8, is that Freo may decide they don't want to match. I think they definitely match at 8.

It only works if a) we really, really want him and b) Freo (Bell) decide to take a stand and don't pick him.

That’s fine is they don’t match. We get best small forward in the draft and our pick 8 moves up one place to help us balance it out with Kemp or Stephens.

 

Net result is we get the best small forward instead of Weightman.

Fremantle are bracing for a top-10 bid on academy prospect Liam Henry as the exciting forward prepares for follow-up interviews ahead of next month’s national draft.

The Dockers yesterday finished a three-day conference on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula to debrief on the trade period and prepare for the draft, with the Henry bid shaping as a key to their fortunes.

Henry, who met all clubs at the AFL combine earlier this month, is due to meet Carlton again next month and has completed follow-up meetings with most other clubs with top-10 selections.

The Dockers hold selections seven and 10 in next month’s national draft and want to snare Henry with later picks, given they have the right to match any rival bids on their Next Generation Academy player.

But industry sources suggested the Dockers were expecting an early bid on the forward.

A rival recruiting manager said most clubs rated Henry in the eight-to-12 range, with multiple clubs in the top 10 considering calling Henry’s name early at the November 27-28 draft.

Melbourne (picks three and eight) and Carlton (pick nine) are the clubs considered most likely to bid on Henry.

Henry, who was born in Derby, sustained a dislocated knee cap in August, preventing him from making his senior debut for Claremont. He recovered from a minor knee setback early in the season to star for WA in their championship-winning under-18 team.

Football manager Peter Bell said this month that the Dockers were already fielding calls to swap draft picks as clubs position themselves around academy bids.

“We’ll look at everything,” he said. “We’ve got the flexibility to do that with the draft picks we have.”

The Dockers also have a future first-round pick and two 2020 second-round selections they can use in swapping picks ahead of, or during, the November draft
