I was concerned about our forward line going into the season and was one of the few here that opened up the possibility that we might regress down to 10 wins because of that.  But 5 wins?  No one picked that.

How people can be happy with T-Mac & Weideman as our KPF's really surprises me.  I'm not sold on either.  Whether we can somehow find an alternative is a big ask too.  Maybe later on in the draft but I still reckon we might make a trade for a tall KPF from elsewhere as a 3rd option.  There's Joel Smith (maybe) but he can't get on the park.

If he plays mostly at Casey with the odd emergency call up to cover an injury out from Lever, May, Hore, Tomlinson (if he's coming and possibly Petty as a pinch hit defender to cover....should be played as the 3rd string tall forward competing with Joel), fair enough, but even then there has to be up to 50 better options floating around somewhere in football land.

My guess is that the Hawks have good relationships with lots of player managers and then act accordingly.

The hate for Frost is over the top too.  The bloke is trying his best and is probably still a better player than at least half our list.  And he gets on the park and the coach keeps putting him into the 22.  Or did so previously.

I'd like to know what is behind the belief. What is the rationale or evidence base

Perhaps there was something amiss with (n)OMac this year.

Oscar was gifted the opportunity of two pre-seaaons and still couldn't improve Macca.  Him and Weid are both busts and there is no way T-Mac is a week in week out genuine No.1 Key forward.

Need to find another and pronto or we'll just dead cat bounce to somewhere between 9th and bottom.

What a churlish and childish comment coming from the senior coach.  Effectively an insult to one of your own players.  That's how Frost would have seen it.  Plus,  one of his teammates  berates him for a full 5 minutes during a game.  All under the coaches eye. 

The feeble-minded get amused by it all but Goodwin is only in a position of strength because he's got 3 years to go on his contract.

Get use to it, it's happening. I'd rather keep him personally, but the fact t he hasn't been offered a contract is telling.

At the end of the day we need to make the right decisions on the list. Frost is better than McDonald but we will get a better deal for frost than the former.

I was at the peptides game in red 3 - both frost and o Mac were appalling 

Brown kicked 2.3 - if he’d kicked straight like the week before he’d have had 5.0, 17 disposals and 6 marks to his name; other than the inaccurate goal kicking, that’s a very good game for a key forward

Definitely wasn’t taken personally. It was just a general comment on the reason why I take the stance I do on Frost just in case other posters see it purely as a dislike or hate of him.

Can we please dispense with the personal attacks. Disagreement is fine but let’s just stop taking it out on each other. Last warning to all. 

The other thing is that if Goodwin was always going to let Frost go and at the same time have a mind to keep Oscar why would he continually play Frost instead of Oscar?

In the 2nd half of the season especially where he could have got some more games into Oscar. 

It wouldn't be to keep Frost's value up surely.  As it stands,  we'll be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for Frost anyway.

You are assuming that Frost might have overpriced himself because he's got too high an opinion of himself yeah?

Maybe he just wanted out and overpriced himself so as to serve a purpose. And he might have overpriced himself because the club gave him a low-ball offer

My guess is that he just wants a new start.  And he's got what he wanted by the looks of it.

And we'll almost certainly never know the full story.

Others do because of the way they talk about him.  And that's where my commenrs were directed

And for what it's worth I'm not emotionally invested in Frost either.

Just the circumstances with the move.

 

All the commentators seem to forget that our best young player is PETTY, and it is him that is perfectly placed to be the tall defender that will (easily) replace frosted nuts.

Frosts last 2 contracts have history with  his Manager hawking him around and asking for Overs but his value has increased as his form after all he stood very tall during the Finals last year and this season but Melbourne have placed a value him at a lot less than his Manager.

If he can  get huge dollars else where good luck to him I certainly would like to keep him but I also ask the question of Hawthorn and their Salary Cap how can they fit Patton Frost and Elliott in surely the AFL conduct Audits perhaps they add up differently to me .

I think Frost is worth a second round draft pick and would request nothing less

Frost may not be on big coin at Hawthorn.  Could be an average amount for all we know.

He might have just wanted to switch clubs regardless of whether we made him an offet or not.
