Big mistake letting Frost walk, there's no back cover WHEN May and Lever are injured. O/Mac ???? I think not

Oscar can become a better player as stated previously.  See a few posts above.  Whether that happens or not is up to Oscar.  And Petty might come on

But it's our forward line where the bigger problems lie.  Unless we fix that we won't progress far up the ladder

I was concerned about our forward line going into the season and was one of the few here that opened up the possibility that we might regress down to 10 wins because of that.  But 5 wins?  No one picked that.

How people can be happy with T-Mac & Weideman as our KPF's really surprises me.  I'm not sold on either.  Whether we can somehow find an alternative is a big ask too.  Maybe later on in the draft but I still reckon we might make a trade for a tall KPF from elsewhere as a 3rd option.  There's Joel Smith (maybe) but he can't get on the park.

From the HS this morning

HAWTHORN’S luring of Melbourne full back Sam Frost on a multi-year deal came after the Demons had declined to offer him a deal.

Melbourne believes Oscar McDonald can fill the third defensive tall option alongside Steven May and Jake Lever, even though Frost was ninth in the Demons best-and-fairest this year.

AS stated earlier I am a Frost fan but it appears there was NO offer to Frost and even scarier is their blind faith in Oscar. I fear this is a mistake.

It wont be Oscar filling that role Older.  The bloke couldn't fill a cup cake.

Marty Hore is a mile ahead of Oscar in his first season even though he plays smaller and technically a tad small if the opp's going in with three tallish forwards.

For as long as we see the likes of Oscar on our senior list and Goody & the FD continuing to take him seriously and gift him senior games, we are going nowhere as a club.

If he plays mostly at Casey with the odd emergency call up to cover an injury out from Lever, May, Hore, Tomlinson (if he's coming and possibly Petty as a pinch hit defender to cover....should be played as the 3rd string tall forward competing with Joel), fair enough, but even then there has to be up to 50 better options floating around somewhere in football land.

On SEN last week Frost said he was waiting to hear from Melbourne on a ‘fresh deal’. He’d been offered one earlier in the season but rejected it.

Tickets-Frost: “Based on my age (26) and the year I’ve had, I imagine there would have been a few phone calls but I don’t know how serious a lot of those phone calls are or aren’t so I’ll just leave that to (manager) Anthony (McConville).”

Well if he was offered a contract that wasn't worth much and another club had offered him a great deal more what is he supposed to do?

What would you do?

The offer from Hawthorn didn't necessarily come late in the season either.  A lot of assumptions being made here and the reality is that all things are possible.

My guess is that the Hawks have good relationships with lots of player managers and then act accordingly.

The hate for Frost is over the top too.  The bloke is trying his best and is probably still a better player than at least half our list.  And he gets on the park and the coach keeps putting him into the 22.  Or did so previously.

I wish him well.

Ah right, we're doing the hypotheticals, yes?

If May, Lever, Oscar, Jetta, Hibberd, Salem, Petty, Tom Mac, Weideman, Gawn, Oliver and Joel Smith were all injured, I'd hate to see what would happen with Viney on Brown.

Am I doing it right?

No because Spargs would be on him

I'd like to know what is behind the belief. What is the rationale or evidence base

Perhaps there was something amiss with (n)OMac this year.

Oscar was gifted the opportunity of two pre-seaaons and still couldn't improve Macca.  Him and Weid are both busts and there is no way T-Mac is a week in week out genuine No.1 Key forward.

Need to find another and pronto or we'll just dead cat bounce to somewhere between 9th and bottom.

Get serious MFC ffs.

Harley Bennell. It’s the latest example of your ridiculous posts. Landslide winner in this site for brain dead content again.

You both want the Red and Blue glory but you have to admit to being wrong again and again.

Can you point where i am wrong? Did i not say McKernan, Kennedy amd Darling had kicked bags of 4 on him this year?

Of course i actually had to break it down for you becausr i knew straight away your little nut inside ypur head wouldnt be able to process it.

Why do you keep harping on about Harley Bennell? Probably 70% of people on here have expressed that the club should take a risk.. Some might want him some might not. That is fine.. Your obscure obsession shows how simple you are. Throw out the same line and hopefully others jump on board with it.

Weren't you the one comparing a kid that will be lucky to get drafted at all next year to the great Michael O'Lounglin?? Now that's funny...

Serous question:  if frosty balls was on someone else’s list, would you want us to pay ‘overs’ to get him to the club?  Does he improve the list compared to not having him (and having someone else like petty step up into that role)?

Good question.

I’d think the club had completely lost the plot if we attempted to bring him in.

To be honest I thought we paid overs when we got him from GWS in the first place...

As for the 'Frost-Ball' observation

What a churlish and childish comment coming from the senior coach.  Effectively an insult to one of your own players.  That's how Frost would have seen it.  Plus,  one of his teammates  berates him for a full 5 minutes during a game.  All under the coaches eye.

The feeble-minded get amused by it all but Goodwin is only in a position of strength because he's got 3 years to go on his contract.

Delivers 5 wins and he's crackin' gags about one of his own players.  It's time he grew up.

I remember when Shaun Mckernan kicked 4 on Sam Frost at the start of the year..

That was funny..

Jack Darling also kicked 4 on Frost in Darwin.

Josh Kennedy bagged 4 goals straight against Frost in round 9 this year. Same Josh Kennedy that kicked another 4 against old Frost balls in the prelim last year. After that performance, it was exact reason why club went after Steven May.

Yep. Frosty sure did destroy Kennedy........

Line one.  Absolutely wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

Oscar McDonald was on Mckernan in round 3.  I was there.  I was screaming. It was ridiculous.  Goodwin keeps faith in Omcd yet jettisons Frost. It’s madness.

Btw watch round 23 v Kangas. Frost shutdown Ben Brown.  He’d kicked 10 the prior week.  It’s madness to let Frost walk.

I was at the peptides game in red 3 - both frost and o Mac were appalling

Brown kicked 2.3 - if he’d kicked straight like the week before he’d have had 5.0, 17 disposals and 6 marks to his name; other than the inaccurate goal kicking, that’s a very good game for a key forward

Definitely wasn’t taken personally. It was just a general comment on the reason why I take the stance I do on Frost just in case other posters see it purely as a dislike or hate of him.

Can we please dispense with the personal attacks. Disagreement is fine but let’s just stop taking it out on each other. Last warning to all.

The other thing is that if Goodwin was always going to let Frost go and at the same time have a mind to keep Oscar why would he continually play Frost instead of Oscar?

In the 2nd half of the season especially where he could have got some more games into Oscar.

It wouldn't be to keep Frost's value up surely.  As it stands,  we'll be lucky to get a 3rd round pick for Frost anyway.

Well you did call him 'Tickets'

You are assuming that Frost might have overpriced himself because he's got too high an opinion of himself yeah?

Maybe he just wanted out and overpriced himself so as to serve a purpose. And he might have overpriced himself because the club gave him a low-ball offer

My guess is that he just wants a new start.  And he's got what he wanted by the looks of it.

And we'll almost certainly never know the full story.

2nd time ...

I never said YOU hated him

Others do because of the way they talk about him.  And that's where my commenrs were directed

And for what it's worth I'm not emotionally invested in Frost either.

Just the circumstances with the move.

All the commentators seem to forget that our best young player is PETTY, and it is him that is perfectly placed to be the tall defender that will (easily) replace frosted nuts.

Frosts last 2 contracts have history with  his Manager hawking him around and asking for Overs but his value has increased as his form after all he stood very tall during the Finals last year and this season but Melbourne have placed a value him at a lot less than his Manager.

If he can  get huge dollars else where good luck to him I certainly would like to keep him but I also ask the question of Hawthorn and their Salary Cap how can they fit Patton Frost and Elliott in surely the AFL conduct Audits perhaps they add up differently to me .

I think Frost is worth a second round draft pick and would request nothing less

Frost may not be on big coin at Hawthorn.  Could be an average amount for all we know.

He might have just wanted to switch clubs regardless of whether we made him an offet or not.
