Tom Browne is an idiot

My source has confirmed this.

Weightman is a Spargo like player.  Not the 200+ gamer that is the top 10 aim.

I would rate 20 youngsters well before Weightman.

JT would be a lunatic to pick him at 3.

Well take it to the bank spirit we will take him at pic 3.

Its the melb way!

Well he's not even in the top 20 in most phantom drafts so unless he's seriously bolted. Saints will give pick 6 to Freo so they aint gonna use it on him. There's also 2-3 other good forwards in the top 20 like Caleb Serong & Taheny.

I like the look of Flandersisis at number 10

not just for the simpsons joke opportunities.  big body, mid and fwd.  if we split pick 3 he's the type we might get

I have no issue with us getting 2 or even 3 forwards with the picks we have in the draft. Its our biggest glaring list hole and the only way to convert some of that inside 50 dominance.

This comment just proved that you have not watched Weightman in the flesh live and only going off what you read on Bigfooty draft boards.

I shall and won't explain any further only to say that Weightman is a completely different player to Spargo. And this coming from someone who had a lot to do with Charlie when he was coming through our development squad in the Murray Bushrangers program.

Watched at Shepley oval and wasn’t that impressed. Say hi next time hey. Ash and Young were the standouts and I’d be happy with either for pace (Ash) and class (Young).  Kobi George is one to watch.  He could be an NGA special for Dees

No.

But it shows the type of payers we will be looking at. Small forwards and outside runners. Weightman obviously fits that bill.

Agree need smalls.

I haven’t seen anyone yet n watching a dozen nab games this year.  Reckon we either trade in or put another year into Chandler and Bedford.

Id assume Browne hasn’t put 2 and 2 together. I’m sure both us and stkilda are keen - like we are both keen to ‘split our picks’ to have 2 mid-first round picks. A pick 15 wouldn’t be too high for Weightman if he tests well at the combine.

Fantasy Post (if split picks)

  • 1st round picks from GWS; draft Weightman, trade for Laird.
  • 2nd round pick; Langdon.
  • FA; Elliot and Tomlinson

That would be an insanely good trade period for us if we can pull that off. I think that will block every deficiency we have and push us right back up there assuming the boys work hard over summer and we remain healthy.

We would still have to use our 3rd and fourth round picks in the draft in that scenario however, so we would need to clear a total of 7 list spots...

Jeffy, Keilty, Lewis, Maynard (confirmed) ... JKH, ANB & J Wags?

They talk about him on the latest Road To The Draft Podcast, on the AFL website. I tweeted a question to them about how high he could go, and they answered it. Even made fun of my Twitter name ?

Can he slide to pick 38 that's when I'd like to pick him up. If we split our picks that will have me peeved. It didn't work the first time pretty stupid to do it twice. Kelly and Billings are a lot better than Salem and Tyson can't get a game.

Anyone got a highlight video of this kid?  Good chance we swoop on him a pick 8 if you believe the rumours.  He would fill a huge need for us (if hes good enough)

Would be nice to have a star small forward at the club.  We haven't had one since Jeff Farmer and he only had one great season anyway.

Jeff Farmer had two excellent seasons, 1998 when he took us to a prelim off his own boot and 2000 when he took us to the GF off his own boot.

I've changed my mind on Weightman.

Rather take a chance on this bloke tbh...

Super green and possibly a year or so off it but....Genuine X factor, cat like around goals and can take a nice speckie.  Came 10th in the National Combine in the running leap test as well.

A small that has the tall traits a la Cyril (speckie at the 1 minute mark)...

Bit of mongrel never hurt either....

Sixth sense around goal...

If we draft another Spargo at pick 3 then that’s it for me.

We've had a good go at moderately paced midgets without tricks over the years.

Also reminds me of Parish hype a few years back.

Little blokes need to have Rioli type skills for top 10  IMO.

So looks like you're basing your entire opinion on Weightman on having no vision of him. Right. Name one decent source that has Pickett above Weightman..

Saying he is like Spargo or Parish is pretty funny. For starters he is a small forward, not a small mid. Maybe watch a video or two of his games, you would never make those comparisons.

Not at all 247.  Watched all highlight vids (about 5) via the league App and he looks very solid.  I've been keen on him for a few weeks but that was prior to seeing Pickett.  Taylor might be a step up on both but haven't seen any videos.

I'm not worried about sources or draft positions.  I trust what i see albeit i realise it's limited vision vs Weightman but the eyes don't lie.  This bloke is a cat with the X factor we need imv.

Having said that i doubt anyone would pick him up in the top 20 or so as they'll be too scared of getting the pick wrong i reckon.   Necks on the line.

Don’t get me wrong, I would like us to pick him up. Unfortunately we don’t have an appropriate pick atm

Yes i agree.  He'll be gone by 97 or whatever it is.  Unless we can somehow split the pick and still be g'teed of landing Young with the first.  That might give us 6, 8 and something in the 20s/30s that's more appropriate.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
