I haven't seen any images on social media or in the mainstream media of any mad monday demons celebrations so perhaps they were cautioned not to put it out there.

Well at least they had the decency to keep it low key and in house.

How bad does it look from Gold Coast parading around like there celebrating a terrific season. Absolutely embarrassing, they don't give a rats toss bag up there.

Saw on ch7 news tonight they had wacky wednesday where they had to dress up as cricketer's. Why does everyone have to dress up now. I know it's a bit of fun but can't they just go somewhere and dress normally?

Geelong was the club that did the dress ups really well and now everyone is trying to copy.

Anyway Im sure Maxy kept him self nice ahead of tonights AA awards.

Bit of fun / team bonding after a long year, probably much needed.

Dressing up as Aussie cricketers?

Sharing the skills and feelings of snatching defeat from the very jaws of victory?

How MFC.

The idea of dressing up was a deliberate plan to divert players from using Mad Monday purely as an exercise in getting heavily inebriated with all the risks to the club that such behaviour entails. And, largely, it's worked.

If I were a footballer, I'd hate the very idea of a Mad Monday. But I'm not a footballer; I haven't had to watch what I eat and drink for the best part of 10 months and I don't have a perenially sore body to go with it. And I see Kane Cornes doesn't like it...so I'm very happy for our players to have a Mad Monday or Wacky Wednesday if that's what they want. Irrespective of the result of the season they've earned the right.

Anyone who says the boys don't deserve a mad Monday are a-holes of the highest order.

Yes, we didn't get many results this year - but these blokes work incredibly hard all year, and to say they don't deserve to blow off some steam at the end of the year and have a laugh is reserved only for those who think the worlds revolves around them.

You've never had a bad year in your career? Maybe you should exclude yourself from the end of year party when the boss puts his corporate credit card on the bar when you do.

Let it out boys, have fun, big summer ahead.

Nothing wrong with the players meeting up and having a few quite beers after a long season they are entitled to that.

Pleasing to hear without all the cross dressing antics and instgram pics splattered across every social media platform.

Max was running laps of New York 2 years ago during his break which led to his amazing 2018.

Him cycling around Europe might do equally as good.

Great points.

Some harsh truths need to be shared with the players.

Was going to add some thoughts but needed to be separated from previous response.

These are young blokes who have been insulated from a lot of reality. That's fine, but they need to aware of their fortunate position, the challenges included and their responsibilities.

They are a young and talented group who have shown that they can play outstanding passages. They must now sustain their efforts, reward their supporters including sponsors and realise their potential.

They must play as a group and give 100% all the time, aware that they will be replaced by someone in the squad who will replace them if they do or can not. This should not be seen as threatening but a fact to insure their own success.

Its a challenge for the coach to use the whole squad and come up with structures or patterns that use all the squad at appropriate times. Training should be at a tempo and intensity so that the structures and patterns are instinctive in every player.

I would like to see a retention of "chaos ball" but add "churn" where players constantly revolve around both creating space and covering opponents. Not matched against a specific player Or defending space but creating confusion in opponents by moving to and covering opportunities. This should be instinctive and can only work by knowing your teammates  capabilities intimately. Know who is faster or slower than their opponent, who will kick it short or long, who will handpass , who will turn, be flexible through knowledge of each other, support each other and reap team results.

Thats all for now.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
