Yeah.  I’m looking at the ridiculous nature of the whole thing.  I am resigned to us having zero input into what happens, so we have to roll with it.  The fact is that shifting from 2-3 has a bigger impact than any other move, and the size of that move is that of a second rounder.  I am not taking it personally, just looking at the AFL-ness of the whole thing....

I am leaning more to the view, that if GC get pick 2, we will split our pick. If we keep pick 2 and GC want Rowell, I think we will take Anderson. However if GC are wanting Anderson, again I think we will split the pick.

I hope the team have a clear strategy that will not mean we get suckered at the last moment, but clearly plan out the scenarios and deliver best value.

I'm sure we do. We've been very good in this area and ahead of the pack in terms of the new AFL systems in place. Landing Oliver and Weideman in the same draft was a perfect example.

That was 4 years ago, recently I disagree.

Can you give evidence as to why?

Because there is no evidence to suggest we are ahead of the pack for the last 3 years?

We have made no trades to capitalise on the teams looking to trade away high picks for a bunch of lower picks to maximise points for academy/FS players. Other teams have.

Do you have any evidence to suggest we are ahead of the pack in capitalising on new AFL systems?

I asked you.

Give solid evidence of your negative assumption. Put up or shut up.

Evidence = no trades to capitalise on the points system in past 3 years.

I asked you to give solid evidence on the counter. Put up or shut up.

You do realise around that time the AFL put a stop on clubs using the points system to gain unreasonable advantage for academy/FS picks? The points system needs to balance or the AFL won't agree to it.

The topic was about splitting picks or maximising trades....

Last year we swapped pick 28 for 36 and 46. Too early to tell, though I believe Marty Hore might've been included there. Not sure though.

We also traded one player (Hogan) for May, KK and pick 23 (Swallow). May is a rock, Swallow has big raps from some. Hogan was always likely to leave, better to do it before becoming a FA. KK speculative steak knives

The year before we traded Watts for 31 (Fritsch). Don't know about you but I'm pleased with that.

And I could go on.

Lol, like shooting fish in a barrel!

Why should GCS be given a priority pick when they’re going to get a trade with the Blues for a quality player like Jack Martin who should be netting them a first round pick but will probably cost a second rounder? They already have plenty of first rounders including one who has yet to play at all. First round picks aren’t going to help them anyway if they can’t be nurtured and want to leave at the first possible opportunity.

Because the afl don’t want one of their golden children to continue to suffer and the announcement will be on Brownlow night so that it gets lost in the media.

Great strategy by the afl. Manipulation at its best.

Possible GC get Pick 10 not Pick 2.

Judd thinks so anyway!

Heard that, he seemed very confident. i hope he's right. Noah Anderson would look very good in red and blue.

Would make far more sense. GC have to recruit better people off field to run the joint

18 year old kids are not the answer, hopefully even the AFL understands that

Talk that they'll also get some extra soft cap space too, I think a big issue is that not many decent staff are attracted up their. Both because it's seen as a bit of a basket case and Tony Cochrane is a difficult operator.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's not pick 2, that whatever pick they get has the condition of being traded for experienced players.

Could be any of what you say. But i know 100% Top End draft picks is not the right thing to do, as it wasn’t for us 6-7 years ago

It would be pick 11 more likely if they go this way (after the 10 non-finalists).

That's true, I do also like the idea that 1st year draft picks are given 3 year contracts with only the clubs having the ability to trade them, tying a young player to a club hopefully gets them more invested than someone who thinks they can jump out after a season or 2.

If the Dees do get Pick 2. I expect they will trade it for Ben King!

We'd have them over a barrel and should be asking for more than just King for 2. King + Ah Chee with a late pick going back to them. Or if Frost goes, we could ask for Sam Day. Or if we could somehow use next years picks and get Izak Rankine with King... ?

Question is, does the club rate King higher than Anderson?

Personally, I'd rather Anderson.
