Sam Murray is being looked at to address our outside run. I’m not sure what role we’re looking at for Tomlinson but highly doubt it’s the wing.

Very much into Murray as you've mentioned too.

Mahoney said in a interview he is being brought in to play wing, which imo is his best position

Tomlinson has been told he's being brought in to play wing...

Whether that ends up being the case who knows but that's the position we've targeted him for.

Howe was brought in to C/Wood to play forward and...things change.

That's what Mahoney has said publicly, sure, but I've heard different so I'm not locking that in.

Wait and see hey.

Not sure what position we'll play him but you can bet your bottom dollar he will be playing relief ruckman for Max instead of Weid and TMac. Take that to the bank.

One wonders whether Preuss is then doomed to life at Casey and he still has two years to go on his contract.

Despite the fact that I wanted them to trial the two ruckman I always thought Preuss was brought in as an insurance policy on the chance Max went down with an injury.

With a full complement to play with I don’t think the FD factors Preuss into the team. With Tomlinson joining this virtually guarantees Preuss will be biding his time at Casey.

No one should say he is being brought in for outside run.  He’s a key position player.

I think people are confounding the need for pace, when you play on the wing, vs outside run from stoppages.

Best wingman this year (not the AFL AA version)... bloody Mitch Robinson...

Someone already posted it early this year.. this article is a fascinating read on how to play wing in 2019, and what the expected requirements are...

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/mitch-robinson-why-allaustralian-panel-made-a-mockery-of-players-by-not-selecting-genuine-wingmen/news-story/9e0d4e49d1770d54788d0a2174461cef

Some key points from Mitch on how he viewed traditional wingman...

I think some current posters, still hold this view.

Before this year, my perspective on what attributes are required for a winger would be what most of the AFL community probably thinks, that they:

— Hate the contested football

— Are extremely fit

— Probably weigh about 70 to 80kg

— Are a great ball-user and can run the 3km time trial in less than 10 minutes

He's been told...my info is not a rehash of Mahoney..

...but you don't lock anything in.

Mitch Cleary saying on Trade Radio that the Tomlinson paperwork should be finalised today.

Thanks for listening mate. I appreciate not having to listen to that tripe myself.

Adam Tomlinson has officially joined Melbourne as an Unrestricted Free Agent. The Giants will receive an end of second round compensation. Currently pick 40. #AFLTrade

I loved the big bodied VDB playing the wing, hunting and hurting opposition player, so like this move of Tomlinson, who while not as quick as VDB has endurance and presence.

Welcome aboard!!!

Richmond got end of 2nd comp pick (#39) for Ellis and he is reportedly on $600k pa for 5 years.  So Tomlinson would have to be in the same range to get the same comp pick #40

Happy with this.

Best 15 easily so an upgrade on a few other blokes and he can play multiple roles.

Makes the team better immediately.

Welcome aboard Adam, thanks for signing with us, you will find that we are a Great Club to be at, and just a tip,  stay off Demonland if you put in a poor effort..................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would prefer 3, keep ‘em hungry

but we do have to pay overs to get deals done at this stage

A versatile, top 15 player that costs nothing other than salary. That's a tick from me!

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
