Hawthorn is building at Dingley right near arterial roads to Dandenong and Frankston.  Guaranteed to provide a catchment area in the SE corridor for new members.

With Kennett running Hawthorn and a State Labour Government there is an opening for some wedge style politics but our Board perpetuates the silver tail myth so that probably wouldn't work.

Praha... when was the last time you were in this area.

If you spent some time there you would see that along with the western suburbs it's the fastest growing area of Melbourne.

No AFL club has claimed the Dandenong/Frankston arc. The smart money says it's ours for the building over the next twenty years.

More memberships in a week to be had than in the NT over five years plus a load of increasingly marginal seats.

If it ain't within spiting distance of the Yarra they don't want to know DJ

The Bentleigh Club is nowhere near big enough. It is a Club we had an arrangement with. We do not own it. As a matter of fact it was a hopeless relationship. They showed the match on an old grainy projector  in a second rate room. I have been there when less than a dozen supporters watched interstate games.

The food was also pretty grainy too SK

With a bit of a reminder they might reconsider that view OD? ...

..."For all the grandeur that was 'Marvellous Melbourne' in the 1880s, the city was nicknamed 'Smellbourne', and for good reason. The building of Yan Yean Reservoir in the 1850s had ensured the availability of fresh water, but there was still no sewerage system.

An appalling stench wafted from the many cesspits and open drains. 'Nightsoil' (as human waste was politely referred to) polluted the streets and ran into the Yarra.  Nightsoil collectors frequently dumped their loads on public roads. Ignorance and neglect of the hygienic disposal of human waste had devastating results at this time when hundreds died in a savage outbreak of typhoid.

Melbourne Victory are pushing hard for approval of a $18mill soccer academy in Footscray Park. This is next to the VU sporting facilities. Many Western Bulldogs players use the gym and pool facilities at VU.

Apparently protesters stormed the Maribyrnong council meeting which was to make a decision on it.

Aren't Melbourne Victory currently training out of AAMI Park and the grass pitches next to Goschs?

Here's a pic of the proposal:

This is definitely an issue that needs to be rectified by the MFC.

Unfortunately the big problem is money. Everything revolves around money in the end.

If I was a billionaire I would simply pay for an amazing state-of-the-art modern training base and call it the Robert Flower and/or David Neitz oval...but unfortunately I am not.

Some of the ideas and suggestions about a second training base are definitely worth pursuing.

Sadly I think any development of a secondary training base will need a green light from the local community as well as local and state governments.

It might worth setting up a crowd-funding initiative for this as a long-term project. However any plans will need to be fine tuned and explained in better detail first.

Here we go....

"Melbourne are eyeing land around Gosch's Paddock for their new home after being forced to abandon their highly ambitious plan to build a new headquarters over the Jolimont train lines and carved into Yarra Park.

The club is developing plans to build a new home on the southern side of Gosch’s Paddock near the freeway exit at Punt Rd, possibly strapping around the oval to the western side and connecting with the existing car park.

Another alternative is to build between AAMI Park and Gosch’s Paddock, potentially incorporating the existing car park.

The state government has encouraged Melbourne to explore opportunities on the other side of the railway lines after making it clear they did not support a development in Yarra Park."

Interesting...

"An advantage of moving to the southern side of the train lines and building around Gosch’s Paddock is that the land governed by the Melbourne Olympic Park Trust – which is land broadly designated for sporting use – as opposed to land designated as green space parkland in Yarra Park."

This could be the circuit breaker we need.  Moving Victory out of AAMI would give access to that whole area north of Gosch's to build admin facilities.

It would also mean Rebels could use the inside of the stadium to their hearts content, and not need an outside pitch for practice..

interesting as in once you know this it's obvious not to pursue Yarra Park  'obvious'??

I'm not too fussed where we set up shop to be honest, but I think the key is to get it right, make sure it can be our home for 20-30 years and also get it done ASAP. We have been dealing with this dumb issue for far too long and too many boards and CEOs haven't gotten it done but they have done a lot of talking about it. The time for talking is over (much like the on field aspect).

I thought AAMI Park was supposed to be the answer when we moved in there but alas it was just anothrr temporary solution.

we take what we can get but the modern training facilities that the super clubs have built or are are building are at a level beyond this.

If however Victory and Collingwood FC move out we might just hit the jackpot but remember you have to come up with the community advancement theme to get the funding.

Huh? Victory and Collingwood don't use the same facilities.

What some have suggested is that if Victory move to near VU we could use the soccer pitch area above Goschs to build a new facility.

Now I might be completely naive, but if the Victory move on then that just leaves us and the Storm using Goschs and AAMI Park right?. Now maybe this is too ambitious but would it be completely ridiculous for the 2 clubs to pool their resources to join  AAMI Park and Goschs into a huge multi-code complex? Upgrade our oval to MCG dimensions, Move the current Rugby pitch around to fit it all together. Build new facilities with space to accommodate both clubs, state of the art facilities, prime location. The Storm is a very well respected organisation, we would do well to associate with them. I understand the appeal of being in our 'own' place, but this would be the next best thing.

A good idea if there is space for both and we don't get in each other's way. But we need to bring our admin over from the G as well.

Build addition facilities needs on AAMI carpark, move Goschs oval next to this and make it MCG size. Bingo!

Facilties.. include such things as indoor training, pools , special rehab centres and the list goes on.

Have you even looked at the super facilities enjoyed by Essendon and Freo just to mention two.

It goes way beyond an oval

True, and there is no plan by Melbourne Victory to move there Senior training base.. Just wishful or fanciful thinking.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
