Now that is an extremely good suggestion LDC. Where do I sign up?

Have we got $15 million form the Federal Government yet? I follow Parramatta in the NRL and they got $15 million today for a new training facility.

I haven't seen this announcement, but any announcement made today might be dependent on a particular result come this Saturday. If I were Parramatta, I wouldn't be spending it just yet. And even if the party making the promise wins the election, there is still no certainty. Political promises are exempt from truth in advertising laws.

The biggest problem facing the MFC with government donations is Labour see us as Conservatives so not votes there and no money. Conservatives see us the same and no votes lost if they don't provide money. You know the story about a rock and a hard place.

Not sure I go along with this. John Brumby helped kick Athletics Victoria out of Olympic Park so Collingwood could have the track for an oval. (John Brumby is a Collingwood supporter.) Dan Andrews replaced the board of Workcover when it looked like they might investigate Essendon over the drug scandal. (Dan Andrews is an Essendon supporter.)

Then add in federal pols who usually have only a vague notion of any sporting code, except for a belief that sporting fans may potentially vote. And adjust their policies in accordance.

The "logic of the proposal" is often about as logical as bids to host the Olympic games. A lot of fluff and not much guarantee of the long term benefits spruiked.

Our people should know this and play the game that way.

Robert Menzies was said to drive his car into Princess park to watch his Blues. he had some effect on the Blues I believe.

How did the Brown paper Bag-Man end up a Blue I wonder...  and not to mention Malcolm Fraser.

The Saints had a Fox.

The Lions had no one, did they ?

The Roos ?

The Cats ?

The Sth Melb Swans ?

We had Billy Snedden,  for a while.

All these teams have struggled for most of the past 50 Yrs.   Apart from Cats since the turn of the century. And the Swans up in the Harbour City.

If you are going to dream, dream big i say.

If we could find a way to kick Victory and Storm off their training ovals, and completely take over the Goshs Park area, this is what our training base could look like.

It could happen, couldnt it??

(Dreaming is free after all, and this thread is wayyyy too depressing)

Ah, Ding...   I love your work there...  any chance you could push that building toward Olympic Boulevarde ?

I'm imagining a building with a tallish single story portico type entrance onto Olympic Boulevarde, and as it gets further from the intersection, the building would jump up to being a  2 or a 3 story complex.  with basement car-park...  and some under-building car-parking and delivery area adjacent to the Sth-Eastern  HFF area.?

The front Portico section could house a shopfront, selling merchandise,  a cafe,  and ticket sales area.  This could be open to public and captcha patrons going to Footy,  Rugby,  and Tennis... a 7 day a week enterprise.?

The section abutting the oval could have 1st Flr viewing area of the Oval,  from which to watch training,  and enjoy nice coffee,  and also maybe occasional AFLW games.?

Alternately... another plan could be to build the complex behind the Sth-West Boundary of the Oval...  over and above that car-park, and open ground ?

... In which case,  the Oval could push 25Mtrs to the East,  and 10Mtrs further Sth...  allowing more room between Olympic Boulevarde and the Oval.?    Which would allow more building room along the Western-end boundary,  which itself could open onto Olympic Boulevarde ?

... or even have both Buildings. ????     ?

We should register a Melbourne Demons party for the next election, and sell preferences to whichever party stumps up the cash.

This map is broken, there are buildings where Gotch's paddock is meant to be.

As an alternative we could remain at Gotch's paddock and build our admin and training facilities in sewer system, kind of like Bane's home in The Dark Night.

Just did google map - from the G to Casey Fields at 8:30 pm 45 minutes!  Much longer any time in daylight any day of the week.

Any prospects in Albert Park/Lakeside Oval area?

certainly plenty of area. A matter of claiming a spot of our own.

And of course preseason training would be disrupted by the Grand Prix.

Maybe Gil and the other Grand [censored] could sacrifice the polo pitch opposite pit straight?

Cricket (and Grand Prix) clash with preseason.

This would be the logical choice. The troublesome residents in East Melbourne can get on board or GAGF. We might need to send in some hevaies to fix them up.

Sadly MFC don’t have many heavies (other perhaps than than Steven May presenting for preseason ?)

love it... not only the mega training facility but the trainline to go with it.

Think Ryalh? used to live at Macedon during the Bolte days... he had his own carriage that would be coupled to the normal commuter train.

I'm excited.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
