Having a not so good season and we are looking for a captain for 2020 eat them up and spit our captains out the door?

Jack is the co captain and barring any mishaps will be for a while yet l believe and if Nathan decides to pull the pin then Max could be the co captain. They would be our best 2 .

Viney  has what it takes and an injury free and at his top he would lead by example as he does many times. . However lets wait and see what he does till the end of the season and judge his performance and Nathans then.

I don't think it's a matter of spitting out our captains. Jones has been an immense servant and leader of this club. If we're to move forward we need to do difficult things. Sometimes that means people stand back (Jones can still be a part of our success next year). Viney needs to focus on his health and form. It's not like he's been out of it just this year, last year was not a great year either for the same reasons. It isn't just a form slump.

It's a separate issue but I'm not big on this co captain thing either.

We're looking at a bottom 4 finish, and may very well be bottom next week. After last year, and if we are to finally to correct our trajectory and be taken seriously by other teams (we're not, the GWS players comments about us last week are proof), we need to do a lot of difficult things, including changing our mindset, and reboot with the talent that we have.

By the way, I agree that we should see how this year pans out. I would expect that the captain would help to correct things for 2020. My question is just a thought and should be considered as part of the mix of things that will need to happen to dissect a year gone wrong.

I disagree. Viney reminds me of where Cotchin was a few years ago. Could barely kick over 40 metres and struggled to impact on games.

I think injury has clearly curtailed Jack's game and I think with a free run at it and some good coaching, he will offer what we need. But he needs to evolve his game from a player who tries to take on everyone. He's not big enough, so he needs to play the percentages where possible and focus on bringing other players into the game with his ferocious attack on the player and ball.

I think Max should be his co-captain though.

I hope so, I have a lot of time for Jack. Choc full of potential and love for the club. I just wonder whether removing the burden of captaincy will help him rediscover/redefine his game.

Jones is on the couch now. I know his on-field has dropped off, but he speaks very well and articulates our deficiencies very well (and always has). Gawn matches him with this; if not more.

I can't believe Jones kept a straight face on the couch while saying he honestly believed and was extremely confident that we're on the verge of something special. A career in politics perhaps.

The whole place sounds delusional, Goody, et al, Cheezus do they ever deal with reality??

Didn't know Magic Mushies grew at Gosh's Paddock!

I know it's [censored] weak but I'm in the exact same boat. I've had a gut full and am on the brink of not renewing for next season.

Jones will play on next year but step down as Captain.

Goody made a poor decision in appointing Viney as a co captain too early in both his (Goody's) and Viney's career.

Said so at the time and it's not hindsight it was a dumb novice coach captains call.

Max is the obvious, Lever has real leadership...they would be my co captains.

Jack needs to concentrate on getting himself fit & becoming a team first player not encumbered with the captaincy.

If you go on face value then no.

Dazzle is right on the money. Jones retires at seasons end ( after a great career) and club moves to appoint new blood.

Viney is NOT a captains toenail. Period!

For next year

GAWN CAPT

MAY ( Thats right MAY!) VC

OLIVER DVC

LEADERSHIP GROUP  LEVER, MELKS NEV

While i disagree with oliver, may and dropping viney completely, its amazing how quick i forgot about nev in these discussions. He has been what mfc has lacked since junior.(no offence to jones but his game was very centered on jones's game for a few years)

If gawn continues his form and style of play/leadership he qualifies in this catergory too, but has dropped his bundle a couple of games. Players that just produce what is expected of them each and every contest. Too many times we've thrown players into leadership roles after one or 2 good years only to see them lose form. We've tried trading experienced leaders in, bandaided the problem (cross, vince, lewis) while our young players learn off them. Nev and gawn are the only 2 that have come on, viney was, but id say that was part of him anyway and injuries have hampered him. Now we need more players to stand up, the next wave of brayshaws, olivers, petraccas, harmes, lever, hunt has shown glimpes of dragging teammates up, but until these are the players that are at that level, we will be lacking.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
