    Maybe it’s this... but imo we Still should be able too see the basis of a good game plan operating. Missing this at both levels.

    Yes, his two possessions in a half of footy in the twos are going to make a real difference in the AFL.

    I think Picket is arguing for ratings based on total body mass, which certainly favours Preuss because he is both large and, according to rumour, a bit dense too! :D

    Sounds dismally familiar

    I listened too. That fella is total peanut. Major axe to grind with casey. I suspect he was turned down for a coaching job or some such. Would not shut up about how disappointed he was - work rate blah blah. I made a mental note to ask KC if he knew of him but i can't recall his name (started with a P?).

    How can you implement a game plan with so mnay of your team out and so many players playing having NEVER played together?

    May was very good today and his work rate stood out to me more than anything else. I tried to watch him closely as much as possible and he was outstanding in that department. 

    Several times he would start a metre or two behind his opponent and by the time the ball was there he caught up with speed to spoil or even got in front and marked. 

    In the second quarter the ball was being contested in our forward half,  May and his opponent were the only ones in our back 50 when another Werribee player snuck forward and created a 2 on 1. May decided to sit between them after not one teammate adhered to his calls of dropping back. May would have been 20 metres away from the secondary player when he realised we lost the ball at half forward and the now loose forward became the leading option for Werribee, May sprinted about 50 metres to close down that player on the back flank and spoiled the ball over the boundary. Brilliant stuff to much applause from the Casey faithful that ventured out.

    I thought KK got better as the game went on but was surprised to read he only had 12 touches.

    Dunkley was mainly used forward but it wasn’t a day for our forwards with poor delivery all day. He did show some strength though in the first quarter with a couple of fine tackles.

    Kk huge dissapointment so far. You'd hope Dunkley would show something soon as the mid year draft is prime opportunity to draft the next Kelly/mihocek/collins

    There’s not very much that can be said of the lacklustre performance of the Casey Demons at Avalon Airfield Oval against the Werribee Tigers on Saturday other than that it was woeful. There were however, a few small rays of hope for Demon fans, the main one being the display of defender Steven May from injury and to a lesser extent, Kade Kolodjashnij’s return after two months recovering from the effects of concussion.

    May was in stellar form down back, taking intercept marks, disposing of the ball meticulously and bringing teammates into the game. He finished with 22 disposals and 9 marks. The Demons gave away a lot to get the former Gold Coast skipper and it would be a surprise if he didn’t return to the AFL this weekend against Collingwood. 

    His former teammate Kolodjashnij was less spectacular but he showed some flashes of the brilliance of the early years of his career up north.

    The other Queensland connection was provided by Corey Wagner who picked up 25 possessions and worked hard all day.

    Jim Munro is having an excellent season and he was one of the few who didn’t let his team down. His strength and his tackling were a feature.

    Congratulations to veteran Mitch Gent who played his 100th game and has been a real stalwart of the club.

    The game also saw the debut of  Melbourne mid-season draft pick Kyle Dunkley who started slowly but showed some very good signs for the future.

    However, there was little else about which to be enthused by the Casey Demons’ 7.11.53 to the Werribee Tigers 13.10.88. That score line flattered Casey which never looked like getting close after the home side stamped themselves on the game in the latter stages of the first quarter and kept the Demons to one goal in each of the second and third terms.

    Casey’s next assignment is against traditional rival Collingwood at Casey Fields on Sunday.

      There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

      At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
