Training - Wednesday, 8th May 2019

Featured Replies

Will anyone attend to report a bit of track talk?

The next open session is listed for next week according to the MFC website. With a few players reportedly closer to main training, it would be good to get some reports from our track watchers.

No sign of the boys at Gosch’s... Must be at Casey? Definitely training today though, as referenced in Misson’s injury report re Preuss

Spewin!

Good to see some training in the wet ahead of potentially dewy game in GC

Nice gallery here:

That's great @Graeme Yeats' Mullet - thanks

It's nice to see Kade in action... some rumours on other sites (and this I believe) that TBC on the injury list means he is finished.

Surely he wouldn't be out there if there was some hope.

Sorry EO can you point out where Kade is in that photo?  All i can see are 3 posts and a yellow footy flying through mid air!

there you go.... perhaps I have missed your humour?!? I'm easing myself into some 24 degree weather with some beers in a spa up here in SEQ... :)84310773_ScreenShot2019-05-08at5_19_32pm.png.4e0ea62f99f7cb259a5513c8523f949c.png

Interesting that TM said that there is more room at Casey than Gosch's paddock.  Could that be why we don't do well in the wide open spaces?

Kade, get your [censored] to Casey!!

Thanks @Demonland for the video

Jeffy G looked to be moving OK in the video background, also good to see Mitch Hannan lurking around. JKH moving freely too

P.S. I don't buy Tom McDonald's lip service "nice to get out to Casey". Looked like a totally shouse day, lucky it wasn't also blowing a gale as per usual

Interesting in the video to see Tmac running with the defenders. Lever, Petty and Omac.

My understanding was that Gosch's was approx the same size as the G?  That would seem a good fit to train and utilise / defend on similar space to the G if that is correct surely.  Casey very similar as well...

Casey  175m x 145m

MCG  173.6m x 148.4m

Metricon  161m x 134m

I think the reasons we are struggling this year especially on the MCG and have been since Goody took over are:

1a. Fitness
1b. Game plan
But 2. a small training oval not at all similar to the MCG would be up there.

I think they have gone to Casey for the bigger oval and for some greater privacy but it does raise the question about if they should use it more often and also what is the progress on a new training facility.

Measuring from google maps:

Goschs' is 155 x 109 and often they cut in to a flank for the rehab group.
Casey looks more 160 x 134, very similar to Metricon.

Gosch's just isn't big enough to work on full ground drills that focus on space.

Interesting DS.

I took the Casey dimensions straight off the Casey fields google info.

If the Gosch's dimensions you quoted are accurate i'm wondering why we are training there at all?  Might also 'partly' explain why we haven't done very well at the G but tend to do better on the skinnier grounds like Marvel, the GABBA and Metricon.

Time to move to Casey full time RN.

In fact it is well and truely past time, forget this at the G crap and get a good home.

It would be nice to see in our lifetime OD.

In the 48 years ive been following/supporting i've never seen or heard even a mention from any official at the MFC that the concept has even been discussed.

D'land may well be the only forum it has ever been mentioned as a concept.

To quote your earlier post... there's always next year i guess.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

  • REPORT: Richmond

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
