Plan B - do plan A again but do it better

This game should tell us a lot more about the gameplan. If it can't despatch the Saints it demonstrates that while the gameplan may be okay now and then it does not provide consistency. Centre and forward we have a vastly superior line up compared to the Saints. If the Saints are allowed to clog our forward line and then run it out for scoring opportunities at the other end one really has to question this game plan.

Agree Jim,

Over 12 months the effectiveness of our game plan has been uncertain.

It appears easier for opposition coaches and players to exploit our game plan than the other way around.

SCARED !!!!!!!!!!

So scared that the commentators picked him as Best for the Hawks!

I’d really like us to improve our disposal efficiency this week. A large number of players were floating around the 50-60% mark last week which could’ve been disastrous. If we correct that across the ground and still play with the intensity of last week, we’ll be closer to our best.

Membrey  usually kicks a bag against us....but not against anyone else.

He’s remarkably accurate against us, but normally an unreliable shot for goal.

His career tally against us is 19.9, with the best scores being 5.1 and 4.2, both in 2016, and another 4.2 in 2018. I looked all this up with the expectation of proving you wrong, but it seems you’re right. His goals per game against any club is highest against us, and he’s kicked 4 or more goals in 3 of the 7 times he’s played us in his career, and has never not kicked one against us. Damn.

I disagree about his overall accuracy in front of goals though. His career tally is 131.71 including 44.18 is 2016 and 38.14 in 2017. He had a run last year where he kicked 6.15 including one game of 1.5, but across his career this is an outlier. He’s usually a pretty reliable shot on goal.

It's not just the big beasts that can monster our defence but often we have the alternative that the THIRD tall kills us ie our 3rd tall (do we have one without May or Lever playing?)

Membrey is this and Westhoff also.Who will be his opponent on Saturday.?

Again team defence  I suggest.

Thinking Omac out is a match up - would prefer he had a month at Casey to find touch rather than come back in next week because May isn't yet fit (or an elite trainer apparently).

I had hoped the decades of pain were going to result in a significant and sustained opportunity with this group.

Can someone find the WD40? Not sure why but the window seems a bit jammed.

He’s done it again!

So predictable!

Also predictable was that Kent would play the first. four quarter game of his life( and probably the last)

Well we gave up a bloke who is fast and can kick. He was always someone who could be a 20 possession 3 goal player. SOmething we sorely lack. Blind Freddy could see that and it’s our own fault.

I'm rethinking 'not worried' of a few days ago. 1. This game may be won or lost in the coaches box.

Saints have some decent new Assistant Coaches:  Brett Ratten - a Clarkson protege, ex Senior Coach and premiership captain, Brendon Lade - premiership ruckman.  They seem to have their players up and about each week with fairly consistent, albeit not great performances.

2. I think our comparatively inexperienced coaches are up to the challenge but it is shaping up to be quite a different game to last year.

Well, I was right on one of these but wrong on the other:

1. Tick - the game was lost in the coaches box.

2. Cross - our coaches were not up to the challenge and their inexperience showed.

Ratten would have brought all his Hawks knowledge to the Saints and especially how the Hawks thrashed us early last year.  Did our coaches not anticipate how they might play and the impact of Ratten?

Goodwin needs new assistants to help him.  Rich, Coll and now possibly the Saints have been transformed with a change of assistants.  Some of our key line coaches (Plapp and Chaplin) had zero AFL coaching experience and it shows.  Many of our coaches have not had on field success, which I know isn't everything.  But, overall our assistant coaching panel is fairly lightweight.  And the 2018 finals series aside (was it only a dream...) they don't seem to be creative or flexible.

I am very worried about our next two games:  Tigers then Hawks.  Could easily be 1-6 in 10 days.

I hope Goodwin is looking for new assistants now (and not just Chaplin), otherwise Pert might start looking for on his behalf.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
