Box Hill Hawks v Casey Demons - VFL Round 1

Its a repeat of what we see at Senior level.

- Too many players going for a contest, balls spills free, swept away by Hawks and delivered beautifully by foot

- Hawks can take a mark, we are devoid of players that can mark

- uncontested possessions we are being creamed

- players doing basic things wrong, like being on the wrong side of a contest, covering space not a man, short handballs to a manunder pressure.

It's pretty demoralising watching this knowing that there is no-one other than maybe Stretch who will come into the senior side.

Our coaching staff at Demon HQ and Casey seem to be on the same page, it's just the wrong page.

Too true junior. It seems the same structures, the same patterns, the same intensity, the same skill levels.

Most disappointing.

Stretch at least showed he should step up, but perhaps he can't get a game coz he gets the ball and delivers it to a teammate, provides an option for teammates and can run and kick to advantage. Not our current style.

If Smith could kick he might be a good player.

Maybe its time to try  tSmith,  in the back-half ?

Don’t know whats going on with Keilty today I haven’t seen him play this bad in a long time.

Maybe, they don't want to get slaughtered in the senior team.  tis almost understandable,  'Dkn'.

Tom Sparrow poor draft choice Martin hore a baffling draft decision, why did we not draft Sam Collins? Would fit right in at FB for us, have over drafted inside mids and have no run now

The big thing for me was the tackling numbers of both Chandler and Bedford.

I think it will get to a stage where once the season is completely out of our reach,  we will blood these two. Chandler especially was very very impressive with his smarts and composure with the footy. Bedford did a lot of unrewarded running and was ignored several times. But he showed zip and tackling pressure up field.

Some promising signs from both.

No. Bull Smiths fielding kicking matches his goal kicking.

Plenty of players who wern't brilliant kicks, played back in defence, in the 80's and 90's.

As a defender, when looking to kick to a teammate in space on the wing,  you only have to kick to advantage side of your teammate. IF that teammate is a god one on one player.  It was clearing the footy from scoring range.

This is when our on-ballers earn they're pay.  Win the next contested stoppage and clearance.

I think tSmith would surely be better than either Frost or OMc,  as a defender . he is solid as Oak thru his trunk.  He has a Very low centre of gravity and hold his feet.   Has strong hands.

The typical old fashioned 3rd tall defender.

A little like Ayres was... maybe a hybrid between Ayers and Brett Lovett.   This is what I'm visualising.

Really liked Bedford and Chandler. I think with sparrow we give him much more time. He looked ok in round 1 AFL but expected more in vfl today, but the hawks were unreal

I think once we get the side back into form,  that'll be the time for Sparrow to come back in for another crack.

Too much for a kid to play in a team in shambles.

I thought Chandler was a lot better than Bedford. He made things happen Bedford didn't do anything with his possessions. Surprised Maynard got 17 tackles. The rest I was right with.

Looks like it will be IN : PREUSS OUT: T.MAC (IF INJURED) O.MAC (IF NOT)

It's worth a try. We have nothing down back and nothing up forward. Good to try something new.

We're not playing in the 80's and 90's now 'DV8', a defender who can't kick is a total liability these days.

...by the way Ayres is a legend, they don't just grow on trees.

Lovett is a Dee legend, they grow on the odd tree.

No matter how much you visualise Smith is never going to be in the ball park of these 2....

They were obsessed with finding a replacement for Lever. It's backfired Hore is not a footballers [censored]. Too early to tell with Sparrow yet.

Chandler showed a bit.

Bedford is very slight but has talent and may need some time.

Been hard to watch on TV. Not too many winners out there for Casey.

Chandler is interesting, will see what the next few weeks look like. Maybe we have found a player in Chandler.

Stretch plays against the Swans.

I hate to say it but I don't think the club is going to find it too hard to open up list spots ahead of next season.

I said in a thread that we would have 11 spots open. It could be 13 if Baker and Petty don't pull their finger out.

Don’t know about his stats but agree I thought Hore looked ordinary and not AFL standard.

Pruess was obv being held for thurs night.

Maynard was absolutely terrific in a woeful overall effort, Chandler & Bedford also impressed me, but both are just so so slight. Stretch and Maynard must be in’s for next week with concern being turnaround time.

Baker was quiet but has had no prep but pace is still quite something. Smith also looked good despite his field kicking - for me his hands mean he will be an inc once match fit, Joel Smith ahead but thanks to a JLT game he was put back into for [censored] knows why he’s out.

All MFC players there in crowd, TMac didn’t look sore but who knows, Oliver and Salem both talked about how bad fri was and how much better we were against cats which I found a little off putting in a 80pt loss tells me Clarry still being young really just refers to his own performances I suspect even though he says “we” - Heard Brendan Mc say few interesting things, seems coaches blv it’s 100% attitude and lack of following instruction defensively.

Maynard 27 touches and looked a cut above all other mids, even delivery was good. Chandler had 17 kicked 2 and loads of pressure acts, Bedford looked good but still while away I think.

17 tackles by Maynard - that must put him in contention

Another slow inside mid that does nothing with the ball. That's all we need.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
