As the game gets closer, I get less and less confident.

We have a few underdone players and I worry about their forwardline.

The mids will win it as always. On paper our midfield looks a class above theirs, but this is Melbourne. We could equally win or lose by 100 points.

Feels like this new season has crept up on us very quickly. Must be because we actually played past August last year.

Lose by 100??? You have no idea what you are talking about

Maybe I should list the side that played 3 years ago for your comparison. It’s chalk and cheese. We are essentially 2 players off full strength

Really?  Go your hardest.

To save you a bit of time, the bench for the Round 23 game 3 years ago was Salem, Stretch, Harmes and Matt Jones.  That was a team that lost by 100+ points.

I would take that bench (even at that stage of their careers) any day over the one we have named for tomorrow.

I'll go one step further, if you think this side is 2 players off full strength, then I don't think we have any chance of winning the premiership this year.

A fine drop.

Jasper Hill is not bad and also Paul Osicka. The latter hard to find but is worth the trouble.

Buy the Osicka from Nicks at $29.99 at the moment....

The first winery I ever visited, in 1975. I was a Rose and Port frinker, asked Mrs Osicka for a rose. She hissed they didn't make one. I asked for the port. She rolled her eyes and said, We don't make a port.

Them were the days....

I'm tipping Ryder will have a tough time tomorrow with it being 31 degrees while wearing that giant stackhat on his head. Surely he won't be clunking them with it also obstructing his vision slightly.

MFCSS: Obstructed vision = blinder.

Reports that Ryder has been knocked around by his injury, lost weight because he hasn't been able to eat properly etc....so even if he does play he's not going to be 100% by the sound of it

If it's affecting his weight Re nutrition intake, they may not play him...   if he's lost weight,  it's probably pointless to play him, and could set him back further.

We have 19 of the 22 we beat Geelong with in the elimination final last year.

I'm supremely confident we win this game.

35 point margin is my tip.

The 3 debutants for Lewy Vanders and  Hannan.

Rarely have I seen debutants get a guernsey for so  little form and style.

But I remember Greg Wells debuted with No form at end of 1969 (I think) was nearly BOG and hardly ever missed another game so here's hoping

Good Luck Tom Corey And Marty.

Hunty for Tyson also makes 18 out of 22!

Yes, and that perennial thorn in the side Justin Westoff, at 199cm , tests our height.

Danger game big time for me.

Love Fritsch being in as he can play tall.

I missed out on concerns re; max which west coast worked out in the prelim playing 2 talls and Preuss being left out, or anyone else that can ruck apart from Weid.

I hope they think about what appears to be an Achilles heel for max on a smallish sample size so far but relevant.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well …

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
