Petty’s probably a year off in terms of getting his weight where he wants it to be but he’s definitely playing above it today.

I wonder do we take the risk & put him in the 22 round 1 ? I’m wondering if we put him in Lever’s spot until Lever gets back ? Gives him half a year of what it’s like playing regular first grade football so hopefully he can turn into our second key backman next year.

I know it's only JLT but I would drag Frost I'd I was Goody.

Our disposal is woeful.

Again, much of it coming from the depth players.  It's not even a blip on the radar.  Change out many of those for the 8-9 we have missing today and we're away.

I want Salem to be a midfielder - but he just isn't. He is far more effective down back.

Salem is our sweeper in the backline

Is Goody the right guy tho?

the depth players are showing very little... disappointing

That's why they're depth, Jim.  They are being relied upon in this game to do more than usual and it shows.  That's what JLT is for.  Guys like JKH, Stretch and others are spending far more time in the midfield without Viney and Jones in there, while our backline has struggled without May, Hibberd, Lewis and Jetta (plus Lever, but as we know he's out for a while).

I'm impressed with the side we have in that we're level at half time and we've played some excellent passages of footy.

Not a good sign re: our depth then.

Yes, but very different when you have one or two depth players amongst a settled line up. Back line especially is pretty well all second-choice.

I disagree.  It's why we class them as depth.

Plus it's March.  Every first up game has these sort of turnovers.

Nankervis vs Preuss... so you'd think... One of Hore, Omac etc...

Brayshaw probably to the main offender, which is annoying because he is a ball magnet.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
