I see this thread is off the main board again.  fwiw I thought the Round 4 thread got a good reception with quite a few 'non-regular' AFLW posters chipping with constructive comments and observations on the game.  And approx 2,500 views is pretty good considering only 4 threads on the front page of the main board have exceeded that (excluding the pinned and No B$ threads).

Or just an oversight perhaps.

The loss last week almost makes this game irrelevant.

Nth play Freo sometime soon don't they?  Assuming Nth knock them off, then wouldn't we still be a sneaky chance if we were to win everything from here?

It wouldn't be the MFC way for us to be in the box seat heading into finals.

We need North to beat Adelaide and Bulldogs to beat Freo tomorrow. Of course we have to beat GWS. Which would put us in equal second in conference A.

But did the AFL decide that the GF was top of conference A vs top of conference B? Or have they changed their mind now that the leader in conference B is only on the same wins as bottom of the ladder in conference A.

Which ever way you look at it, Dill has stuffed this one up right royally.

...just make the season 2 weeks longer Dill.

We totally dominated that quarter but kicked 2.5.  Many easy shots missed.  We needed to nail some of those to get some % to give us a fighting chance of the second spot on the ladder.

Just winning won't be enough to make finals.

Playing fairly decent footy but I noticed starting to handball a bit too much. As usual not good kicking for goals. I wouldn't want miss C to be lining up for goals to put us in front after the siren in a grand final.

Umpires keeping the Giants in this. Last goal was not a mark. 2 players got the first touch.

Good goal from miss C. I will have to take back my earlier comments.

The Dee’s are playing great footy just need to tidy up their finishing skills. Good tough footy. Good win.

Handy double 50 to finish the game.

I also take back what my earlier comments :-) we fixed the goal kicking: 5.2 in the second half.

A good win and a 39 point win will certainly help our percentage.

Big game starting shortly: Nth vs Crows.  Hoping for a big North win - they have the first finals spot sewn up so a big defeat of the Crows will really help us in race for second.

Well, now we have to grit out teeth and cheer for North, who have Adelaide NOW, and are also still to play Fremantle.

We are basically one straight kick behind Adelaide on percentage, and well ahead of Freo.

We will have our own bite at Adelaide in the final round, which could well decide which team plays finals.

...

Still can't quite process the absurdity of there being a clear top-4, noticably a cut above the rest, but no matter what comes, only two of them will play finals.

Next time Gil, get off the phone to the Minister and put some thought into football.

Quite a rediculous situation that we are on 160% and would be top of division B by 70% but in this farcicle conference system we are likely to miss out. I really don’t understand why it isn’t just top 4 overall play off for the cup.

I was reading that in the US conference system they take the top X number of teams based upon points/percentage and not ladder position.  Why didn't they do that?

Too logical for the afl

Adelaide well in front.

Sadly, it will take a miracle for us to get to top 2 of Conf A.  Ladder is:

While statistically possible, it is very unlikely that we will be in top 2 of Conf A to play in finals.

Its a crazy finals system but not much we can do about it.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.

The Demons are finally back at the MCG and finally back on the winners list as they continually chipped away at a spirited Kangaroos side eventually breaking their backs and opening the floodgates to run out winners by 6 goals.
