Marcus Seecamp (where is he now)

Featured Replies

Just stumbled across an article on a WNBL player - Seekamp - got me thinking of Marcus - whom for some reason I really liked as a young supporter. Where. Is. He. Now?

Frosty's style of play reminds me of him, a bit quick, a bit uncoordinated and tall.

That's his daughter... I'm sure.    I'm not so sure now...  In fact I think i was wrong.   As searching seecamp basketball the spelling is different.

Part of one of our better backlines with Ingo, Shanahan, Haydn Robbins

How good was his right hook to Brad Peace back in 1998!

Seecamp never played with Haydn Robins

One of my favourite games - a narrow victory over the Blues at Optus Oval.

James McDonald kicking that goal to bring us level which looked like it went through for a point.

Garry Lyon laying a crunching tackle near the end.

And a young blond ponytailed Nathan Brown making his debut.

ND's first year and what a great year it was after a number of shocking seasons in the 90s.

Thanks.

The decades and disappointment blend together ...

Not sure who I’m thinking of now

Marcus was an acquaintance of mine growing up in the small community of Roleystone in the Perth Hills in the 80s. He was a couple of years older than me. He was a gun junior footballer, obviously. Watched his career with interest starting at East Perth in the WAFL, then Fitzroy and then the Dees. I remember bumping into him at Perth airport when he was an AFL footballer, after not having seen each other for probably about 8 or 9 years and he instantly recognised me and remembered my name. Top bloke. One of only 3 players from Roleystone Junior Football Club to make it to the AFL (the others were Daniel Gilmore and Josh Head, both Dockers players). Haven't seen Marcus since that day at the airport all those years ago.

Absolutely should have been point, I was sitting just to the left of the goals and watched it go through. One of the few occasions I'd ever ventured to Princess Park with my best mate who is a Carlton supporter down from the country.  He was dumbfounded and I had a [censored] eating grin like a cheshire cat.  After copping stick all day from him about Craig Smoker I was happy to keep reminding him how 'unlucky' Carlton were!

To me, it looked like a bit of a tap on the chin, but the guy dropped like a stone.

If memory serves me...this incident was followed by Justin Murphy at the other end kicking the “sealer” goal, but signalled as a point. I was right behind his kick, and grumpily looked down at my Record as I watched it sail through with Murphy standing triumphant just in front of me, with the Carlton stands rockin’; I looked up to watch the centre bounce, and was shocked to see a kick out happening. It should have been a goal! Murphy’s (justified!) reaction was priceless, and almost as enjoyable as the overall win.

I reckon it was the game where Jimmy Stynes’s monumental consecutive games record came to an end; a hand injury incurred on the day, as I recall.

Boy, a busy and memorable afternoon!

Also, Seecamp's punch on Pearce was virtually a reflex action after he was punched in the "groin" by the gutless sniper.

He deserved a better whack than he got.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

It’s late February. Two teams widely predicted to finish near the foot of the AFL table in 2026 face off against each other in sweltering 30-degree heat deep in outer suburbia in a match simulation with fresh new faces and uneven team numbers. There are no nearby sheep stations on offer; the result promises nothing more than bragging rights for the winner. Nevertheless, the loser appears hopelessly adrift, whereas the other seems to have found its footing after a couple of years of struggle – perhaps a hint at bigger things to come?
