Weideman is a very exciting prospect.  He could really surprise the competition over the next few years.

He's been in the club doing weights since early October.

I agree PD. He has all the tools - good hands, excellent kicking technique, good marking technique, for a big fella terrific below the needs and quick hands. He is q natural footballer. Also a smart fella who is a learner. I was really impressed with his ability to develop his ruck skills last season. By the end if the year he looked a natural.

But what excites me most is I think that he has got scope to get a lot better as he gets bigger. Great to hear he has been hitting the weights and I suspect he will get a bit taller and broader in the next 1-2 years. He will be a really scary threat for opposition defenders.

In some ways weeds development trajectory is old school in terms of how, with lists of 50 odd players, bugs used to be given time  to find their feet before being rushed into the seniors. Well managed by the dees and the timing of Hogan's departure is perfect in terms of where weed is at developmentally.

At times in 2017 he looked pedestrian in the VFL, but I'm certain it was his lingering ankle injury that curbed his last year in the TAC.  He had another operation on his ankle at the end of 2017 and it seems to have done the trick.  He showed last year that he still has the athletic traits that excited when he was a junior.

A bigger stronger Weideman is something to salivate over.

I'll dare to dream,  but i see Weideman career unfolding a bit like Josh Kennedy from WC. 

A one touch grab who'll be hard to stop sa times because of how good his out reach marking ability is.

A good comparison. Weed will be bigger but like Kennedy he has got long reach. As he gets stronger he, like Kennedy started doing in his mid 20s, will really start clunking his marks.

Really it has never been harder for big forwards given the use of zones, mids pushing back hard and out numbers down back. So many marking contest are pack situations, which puts a premium of strength.

But like West Coast do we will of course continue to try and transition the ball quickly and provide Tmac and Weed as many one out opportunities as possible. One on one Weed will be as hard, maybe harder, to beat than TMac, with his height, strength and reach. Good times.

Weideman is going to be a beauty. He has all the physical attributes and skills, and has footy smarts. He seems intelligent, well grounded and level headed. His behaviour and body language on the field is positive and he does the team things well. Also a cool head as we saw in the finals. He’s a team player and seems bonded with his team mates.  The reaction  from his team mates suggested the feeling is mutual. 

His attitude and behaviour on the field reminds me a bit of Tom McDonald. He keeps battling irrespective of the score line. 

He is going to become a very valuable player and will be chased by other clubs no doubt with Collingwood at the top of the list. 

As you can tell, I’m a huge fan.

But what about all the DL's who said he was hopeless. Surely they couldn't be wrong.

The Weid moves like a natural footballer but will take time to fully blossom. He can mark, kick, chase, tackle and run as well as, if not better than,  others at his age and stage of development and has footy smarts.

I think of his set shot goal from near the boundary after running backwards to take the mark and also his mark and goal from the square during the finals. Only good footballers can do this. Give him time.

I said late last year he made big improvements when got his chance late in the season.

I hope that continues in 2019.

Oh well, respectful difference is the stuff of interest. 

Its just good to see his development last season and his impressive role in two finals.

Like a plant or tree that you have planted a year or two ago, emerging out of winter in spring bud and emerging flower with the prospect of further growth and beauty as time passes.  

He strikes me as a young man that has not got ahead of himself and is prepared to work hard to improve his game. 

We have got a very impressive group of young men that have loads of potential, and who all seem to be level headed, and share in common a good work ethic with great attitudes..

Yes.  He might complain that you've brought it up, but it was the frequency in which he derided him as a player.  If he'd made the odd observation and got it wrong, like we all have, you wouldn't be tagging him in a post.

He must have said it 50 times.  When you're that incessant about a player's supposed failings you've got to wear it when they prove you wrong.  

And if he's not yet convinced about Weideman he ought give up watching football.  I don't like to bandy the word "star" around too often, but I think he'll become a bona fide star of the competition.

I know that I was wrong about him, earlier - I guess impatience got the better of me. His improvement profile and threshold, seen late last season in particular, might even be one of those minor reasons why JH decided his own future might be at stake and hence, quite convincingly, left the MFC for the Dockers.

Not really OD.  PD has explained mainly why but it was your refusal to acknowledge any positive attribute or your willingness to look beyond your singular negatively.  As PD said, we all get it wrong but few have ever bagged a player like you did Weed.
