Who would MFC take if given a top 10 pick in 2018 Draft (via Hogan trade)?

Say we do trade Hogan to Freo, who would Jason Taylor & the recruiting staff be eyeing off around pick 6/7?

Personally, i don't think they take either of the King boys and a lot of the other kids reported to be around that point are from WA and SA..

Surely they'd be after some outside speed or a halfback-type for our midfield..especially if we manage to land Preuss and May.

Any one who can play from round 1 2019 or i don't see why would be going after a kid just to play him n the seconds.

I hope we can land some from GWS or a mid from GC, that's been developing for a few years, so he can slot straight in the side.

The late picks use for some younger guys.

Whoever we might potentially get in terms of footballing ability, which frankly most of us - me more than evidently included - haven't given a toss about researching this year with a previously expected first pick somewhere in the mid to late 30s, the MFC marketing department must be licking its lips with the super-exciting range of names up for grabs in 2018.

Number one on that wish-list has to be Zak Butters, who will offer up such an exceptionally smooth spread of possible puns for eager sub-editors Australia-wide, followed by a modern-day Guardian-baiting racially-inclusive field of surname options including outstanding performers in Lukosius, Rozee, Duursma and, whatever mystery-origin it comes from -  presumably a mix of Irish and Inuktiat - some random kid by the name of Quaynor -

In respect to to so-called Christian names, in the top twenty draftees up for grabs we can possibly recruit almost any contemporary hot-button monikers of our liking, including a field comprised of a biblically-updated Izack, a fresh Bailey, and none more impressive than a modern-day US white-trash potential club-house contender in Rhylee: 'Oh-my golly-gee, Rhy-Lee', if BT is any need of any extra over-egged commentary tips.

Other outstanding given-name options in the MFC top twenty prospective draft picks range include a now regular old-fashioned run of-the-mill Riley, yet significantly empowered when mixed with an MFC-specific double-barrel incentive of a Collier-Dawkins adjoiner, a Tarryn - not to be confused with the Tarkyn of of Lockyer fame - and no less than two now almost heritage Jacksons, a Jye and a Jez and a Jordan, one or two Conners, and some poor kid who I swear to god was given the given name of Chayce - spelling and all.

My personal marketing name smokey for 2019 however would have to be the headline-maximising African Tom Jok, whose entire name is comprised of at least eight less letters than current list incumbent Arron vandenBurg, as well as a serious four-fold syllable reduction. Ditto current Fourthmond VFL small forward Jake Aarts, who offers the added potential of a serious forward arsey/arts & crafts possible punning gold-mine.

one top 10 plus a very good player (Ed Langdon)

but Hogan is contracted and should stay for 2019

You still have to keep building for the future.   You can never have too much talent in your team

This sucks. Part of the fun of draft is the months leading up, deciding who you want, thinking about it. We didn’t even get that.

Could we offer a deal to Carlton say pick 4, and Jayden hunt for pick one and try and get our paws on young Walsh? Kid is going to be a genuine star in my opinion.

If not it’s Smith for me. I’d avoid the king brothers. Don’t rate them as highly as some

Really, i've loved been invested in the finals to waste too much time on the draft!!! Luckily the FD will have been doing all sorts of scouting just in case a situation came up like this. It's too hard to really think about what might be available until we know what the draft pick/s are though. Who knows we could turn around and offload them for other players and not use any?

obviously Jack and Troy have fallen by the wayside ... is this the first crop of the new century or will that be next year?

I don't mind this idea, mate. Hunt's kicking worries me.

Yeah, I do love a future pick though. If you’d have taken one from someone lol the crows last year expecting them to be top 4 again, you’d be laughing all season watching it climb.

Careful Rocky, you'll have the serial deniers from the Trade Hogan thread demand this one be shut down :)

If we got two 1st rounders for Hogan (fair imo) I'd like to trade one for a key back or quick mid with good disposal and the other used on Rankine. That's assuming we sign Preuss, as I believe he is a good support for our remaining key forwards as well as support for Max.

2 top 10 picks for Hogan, we then split them

1 pick + player for May

1 pick + plus future pick for Shiel or similar

There is no reason something like this couldn’t happen.

Think big and get it done.

There's lots of crows fans who've been hating our rise into the top 4 because of the impact on the Lever pick! But it has been nice having a season to think about the next game, not the next lot of draft prospects.

Jetta May Lever

Hibberd Frost Salem

Brayshaw Viney Shiel

Petracca TMac Melksham

Hannan Weed ANB

Gawn Oliver Harmes

Bench

Pruess Fritsch Spargo VDB

Changes from the Prelim :

Fritsch - Jones

Shiel - Lewis

Pruess - Tyson

May - Oscar

Lever - J.Smith

I would like to add that I do rate Oscar and think he’s developing nicely and played well this year but someone has to miss. I think it’s time to move on from Jones and Lewis, yes they contributed as various stages throughout the season but 0 tackles from your captain in a losing side says a lot.

Shiel is a bit suspect, his footskills are hit and miss.

Very similar to Tyson but with more explosion away from the stoppage IMO.

Would rather load up on Kelly either this year or next year via FA

Yeah. Exactly what I was thinking til this crap started. I’d be happy to never see another first rounder for the next 5 years of it meant grand finals.

I don't think May is worth a top 10 pick + player. I don't even think May is worth a top 10 pick.

So not big on him SF?

To be honest have no interest in GCS so have only  watched a single game of these in 2018.

No idea on his ability but he must be a reasonable player to be VC one would think. Funny though replaceing a forward with a back.

That's what makes me a little mad when I see the media or Geelong/Hawks/Swans fans talk about how they had to make do without an early first round draft pick etc etc, surely making and winning finals is a much better outcome that getting excited about an 18 year old kid!

Yes I'd like him, but for the right price.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
