How do you know the club think we are better balanced and structured without him? Guessing?

He will likely go home at some point so we are trying to get the best deal for him.

Replace him like for like? That’s the whole point, there are no Jesse Hogan’s out there. He is a gun young player that imo opinion will dominate the comp over the next 5 years.

As you ask.

Mahoney states the intent of this trade period is to address the balance.

So .Intent....about balance.

An action is trading out a kpf.....trading in a kpb.

Pretty plain I'd have thought.

If it's more than smoke and the reason Freo have withdrawn their offer it looks like Jesse stays and we make the most of the situation.

No point talking about what's not going to happen now or next year.

If it's a problem this year and that's what they're pointing to I can't see Jesse wanting to go there next year or at any time, they've burned him.

Looks like we've got him and what ever the issue is we will need to sort out, if there is one.

You're now seeming to link things to me that I haven't said.  I haven't discussed Freo withdrawing their offer, or the reasons why.

My comments about off-field rumours were in isolation.

My gut feel is that we will end up with at least pick 5 and that he gets traded.  If I'm wrong I'm wrong.

Hogan will never be a defender. He does not play like one, his defensive pressure is poor, he has a turning circle like the Queen Mary and his second efforts are non existent. He is simply not agile enough. Put him down back with Oscar? I don’t think so. Poor old Nev would have to cover both.

A gun forward who could kick 100 placed down back for team balance playing on forwards with half his capability. Hogan would be delighted! How to demotivate a player in one move. Your playing at CHB this season son for reasons of team balance.  That ok? Don’t worry you will still get 850k per year.

Take it for the team!

A couple of things.

- As DaisyCutter pointed out Hogan was an U18 AA defender.

- Virtually NO-ONE foresaw that Tom MacDonald would adapt from his switch from back to forward to become one of the best goalkickers in the league.

Jesse Hogan is a professional footballer playing at a club with genuine premiership hopes. If as has been reported the coach told him at his exit interview that he may be joining the backline group in 2019 then he should’ve sucked it up and said “no worries Goody wherever the team needs me.”

not quite true...Tmac was actually drafted as a forward..   He was just a bit alll over the shop so they reinvented him as a backman....and then they...well...we know the rest...lol

What I find interesting is that Fremantle have been chasing Jesse for years, surely they know him inside and out by now, I don’t understand why they would make him a long term offer, offer us a deal that we were never going to accept but still quite a lot and go all this way if there was some major Off field issue making him damaged goods.

I’ve got no doubt if Jesse went to josh Mahoney today and said I want to sign for 7 years we’d sign without hesitation.

I'm leaning towards that as well but if it doesn't happen so be it.

I just think the off field stuff muddies the waters and all that talk is related to Freo withdrawing their bid whether you mentioned it or not. It's the only reason it's now being discussed.

If I posted pretty reliable information I've had on a few clubs/players along with some high profile people well it's not going to happen.

That's why I get annoyed with the innuendo, I mean I just added to it but truthfully what off field issues these days effect a players performance unless they are a total basket case and I don't think Jesse falls into this category.

Langdon & Nixon are not worth quoting...

They have nothing to hold themselves accountable to, so they can quote whispers in the footy world and get away with it. It then spreads like wildfire.

You keep bringing up this mythical long-term offer that Freo are supposed to have presented him, Patches. There is zero evidence of this.

All that’s known is they courted Jesse, conducted due diligence on his foot and heaven knows what else, then dropped him like a cold 4nTwenty pie on the back of a sham offer they knew we’d be insulted by.

You can either believe it’s a negotiation tactic on their part, or buy into the troublesome prospect that they were spooked by something that hasn’t come to light.

MFC diehards are naturally not going to want to entertain rumours of the latter.

I genuinely doubt it

I think it is clear there is a push on, albeit not explicitly stated, and given the circus of the past 48 hours, sadly, I think it's past point of no return

Well, yes mate, if it doesn't happen then it probably won't happen.  Well done.

As for Chook in Perth, Langdon, Nixon, and vague references by Tom Browne, as well as other speculation that has filtered across the airwaves ?  Some supporters on a thread about Hogan may be interested to know that off-field issues are being publicly discussed as reasons why the Dockers may have gone tepid on the idea of drafting Hogan.  I don't subscribe to that theory.  Why offer pick 11 if that was a major issue.  But some supporters may be interested in that type of thing being said.

But, as stated, there may be smoke and I don't automatically assume that a discredited person is subsequently wrong in everything they ever utter henceforth.  Yes, I know it's easy to take that road, but it's unintelligent and requires no thought.

Naturally, you can please yourself.

The timing of these “issues” is pretty convenient. Without meaning to add to the speculation, footy is the worst industry in Australia for keeping secrets. Everyone knew Watts liked a party more than hard work. St Kilda would have known Jake Carlisle was a fan of the nose beers beforehand, although him being dumb enough to video it was probably a shock. If it’s “failed a medical”, well dur, he just sat out the end of the season with a serious foot injury.

To me the explanation that Freo are circulating rumours on purpose to try and knock down the price still passes the sniff test. I just can’t believe that they’ve unburied some deep dark secret in all their “due diligence”. And whatever it is only reduces his value from 2 firsts to a first and a second? Please.

As to the source being of known reliability - obviously moving past Dumber and Dumbest Langdon and Nixon - even known channels of good information can get polluted with incorrect information in a great game of Chinese whispers, especially if there are parties out there motivated enough to be spreading lies intentionally.

It surprise me we haven't yet heard from even more dumbest, Hardie.

This is right up his alley...

Even if there are 'issues', they can't be major.  If they were, Freo would have made no offer at all, and having  made the mistake of making one, it would have been snapped it up by the MFC.  Whoops, I think I've  already posted that 100 pages back.

I have sat silent on this, but I’d be delighted to keep Jesse. Weed has a long way to go before he is or can be considered a consistent threat at AFL level. Even with all three (Tom Mac) in the team, I think their individual flexibility (Jesse midfield, TMac wing, Weed Ruck) means that it can work well. And with lever coming back, out backline improves.

Maureen it would be great to have May, but it would be great to have a lot of players....

What part of 'That is all they had to offer' don;t you understand.

They only picks they  have right now are 11, 23, 49, and 81. How are they going to get 2 first rounders out of that lot.

And don't say the pick for Neale because that deal has not been done.

I don't think we have to replace him, and i think we have a better version of an "out there" already. He is potentially a better, tougher, goal kicking all rounded team player that could sweep the Competition and i hope he does.....

Like everyone here, I was a Hogan fan.

But his seemingly non-committal approach to the club always irked me. He seems to lack passion for the place - and that, to me at least, is an important intangible that our more important players simply have to possess.

That he has now requested a trade to Freo, means that I can no longer get excited about the bloke - it’s as though he’s merely treading water in the red and the blue.

I’d be super happy with May and a top ten pick for him.

So would the FD but we can’t get May and a top 10 pick for him. Have you read the previous 100 pages on here or any newspaper or any trade article on the net?

Based on the fact it’s been widely reported he’s received long term offers of over a million dollars per season, over the past few years I think it’s safe to assume it’s the same again. Or he’d stay at the dees, collect his 850 k next year and have a crack at a flag.

I think it’s unrealistic to think he’d leave us to go to freo for a 2 year 600k deal...

i believe this is a negotiation tactic because no one heard any of this until freo started negotiations, then suddenly there are rumours flying everywhere about Jesse. And yet freo are still willing to offer pick 11 and a second rounder plus what is presumably a sizeable contract for him. Issues can’t be that bad can they?

They want Melbourne to budge and I’m very confident if we hold firm peter bell as arrogant as he is will realise it’s a massive failure from him personally to fail to sign jesse when he was as close to a sure thing as you can get.

Perhaps if these rumours were around half way through the year dees fans might have taken them more seriouly but they weren’t because Jesse was right in the mix for the Coleman and all Australian at the time

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
