While Mahoney said he was undecided, you get the feeling it's more 70/30 or 80/20 that he decides that he wants to play his footy back in WA.  I believe Josh when he says that Jesse is still making a decision, but at the same time he didn't sound all that confident that Jesse would come back to the club and say that he wanted to stay.

I also get the feeling that the club would be (quietly, not outwardly) happy to move him on so they can conclude other deals.  Mahoney made mention of the fact that this off-season is a great chance to improve 'team balance', and he may be referencing the fact that Jesse going and Steven May coming in would balance out the side much better.

Either way, it seems like we have a few more days of guessing ahead of us before an official decision is made.

Talent.

Mahoney's interview discussin Hogan all sounded very rehearsed to the point I think they are a long way down the road with both Freo & GC. I think there is a 90% chance Hogan is at Freo and May is at Melbourne next year (opinion).

Best 22 next year:

B:       Jetta               May           Hibberd

HB:    Lever              O Mac        Salem

?     Fritsch           Viney          Harmes

HF:     Melksham     Weid          ANB

F:        Spargo          T Mac         Petracca

R:       Gawn             Oliver          Brayshaw

Int:     Preuss     Kolodjashnij     Lewis     Jones

I’d rather hogan, AVB and Tyson than the two state league players and Steven May that you’ve replaced them with to be honest.

Ablett was the malicious one there with the push. Funny how the "greatest" players sulk when they lose a contest fairly like buddy on davis this year.

Mahoney on trade radio just said re: Hogan...

"Not sure at the moment, we'll have a conversation about where he's going. He's going to meet with a few different people but he's a chance to leave at this stage."

"We've had conversations with him every trade period about whether he wants to leave, and this year may be the case."

"Whatever his decision is, we'll support that."

How is that talent? He laid a front on bump and got suspended for 5 weeks. Nothing talented about laying a bump to an unprotected player going for the ball. That's cowardly. He let his team down by sitting in the stands for 5 weeks instead of being out there when they needed him. Don't get me wrong, I like when players are tough, but crossing the line and getting yourself suspended for long periods of time means you're nothing but a burden to your teammates and your club. Hopefully he's learnt from that mistake and his bad tribunal record...

On Hogan, he's gone. 100%. Mahoney could've played a straight bat and said required player etc. instead he starting listing reasons why it it's happening/might be happening. If he was sticking around, he'd have shot that down instead of starting to soften the blow. He's 100% gone. A shame to lose a young star heading into his prime, but we'll get good compensation and may become a better team for it.

Hang on, hang on. Mate, he's gone. Are you really buying Mahoney's comments today?

I'll be honest, looking at our best 22 for next year without Hogan or AVB in it makes me sad. Pray that May will be great for us and him an Lever stay fit all season. Also pray that Weid can kick 25-30 goals and T.Mac has another good year while always getting the no.1 defender.

Not at all.  I mentioned in my earlier post that Mahoney claimed it still to be 50/50 really, and that there was nothing concrete, but from the way he spoke I said it's more likely to be 80/20.

I won't accept he's gone until he's really gone, but as you and others say, reading between the lines suggests that they are more than prepared, and expect, for Hogan to tell them he wants to be traded home.

I think he's clearly already told them he wants to be traded, but I'm only speculating, with no inside info.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
