80% of people on this thread wanted to keep jack watts. And like I said that was embarassing. I would've got rid of him 5 years earlier. He was clearly never going to make it. We probably wouldve made finals sooner without him. Port will delist him at the end of next season. Some people are so blinded by their deep support that they don't have it in them to talk about a players flaws.

I agree about the blind support. Maybe you have potential outside your day job after all.

Thank you father I can go forth with confidence that she is on our side..

I think Hogan could play as a midfielder like Cripps and make an impact for the team so yes we could then play all 3 Weeds TMac and Hoges in the same team.

I wouldn't be taking one of our biggest strengths (a 40+ goal CHF beast) and playing him in the middle unless we were trying to get him into the game. And even then, once he gets a few touches I'd be telling him to go forward.

Keen to see some best 22s and the associated forward lines with Hogan, Weid and TMac all in that forward line.

Everything could potentially change with the the 6-6-6 ‘number of the beast’ structure that clubs will forced to align with at centre bounces next season

Will clubs increasingly go 3 talls / 3 smells in forward and backlines? Will be interesting to see...

If we do:

B: Jetta - O Mac - Lever
HB: Salem - Frost - Hibberd
? Jones - Brayshaw - Viney
HF: Petracca - Hogan - ANB
F: Weideman - T Mac - Melksham
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Harmes
I/c: Lewis - Tyson - vandenBerg - Fritsch
Emerg: Spargo - Hannan - Hunt - J Smith

If we stick with the relative ‘small ball’ line-up:

B: Jetta - O Mac - Hibberd
HB: Salem - Lever - Lewis
? Jones - Brayshaw - Viney
HF: Petracca - Hogan - ANB
F: vandenBerg - T Mac - Melksham
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Harmes
I/c: Tyson - Hannan - Weideman - Fritsch
Emerg: Spargo - Frost - Hunt - J Smith

If the 6-6-6 comes in, particularly if it’s coupled with reduced rotations, I would expect it to be the ‘tall’ line-up that may be preferred

Both those sides are missing Fritsch

Out of interest would a trade of Hogan for Lachie Neale be a fair swap or would we need more?

Lachie Neale and there first pick would be a start. Not that I want to entertain trading Hogan.

most would say that two early first rounders would be fair for Hogan so you are valuing Neale at one first rounder.

Might be a little low but worth arguing.

With Frost’s pace, athleticism and all round general improvement could he not play on mid size forwards as well as talls? I think your first back 6 is not only great defensively but also would generate a lot of drive from the back half. Frost was massive against the Giants.

With regards to the forwards I think three is too many. TMac must be the deepest fwd.

Given TMac started on the wing for a number of games, there's every chance either him of Hogan would start there then go forward or even back as the need presents. Unless they introduce the 6-6-6 format then putting positions on paper is really useless. For mine Weid stays as the deepest forward (and goes into the ruck), then Hoges and TMac swap between around the half forward (around 35 - 60 meters from goal) and roaming anywhere in-between the 2 50 meter lines, pushing hard forward when they get the mismatch.

The team breaks up into the forwards, mids and backs at the game breaks - these categories do exist even if "forward pocket" no longer exists.  It is meaningful to group the players into each area and see what type of team balance you get and who misses out.

Wonderful problem to have when we finally have more than 22 good players to fit into the side.

Jetta  Omac  Hibberd

Fritsch  Frost  Lever

Salem  Oliver  Brayshaw

Harmes  Hogan  Melksham

Petracca  TMac  Weideman

Gawn  Viney  Tyson

Jones  ANB  Lewis  Spargo

Emergencies

Hunt  AVB  JKH

There will be issues of relativity.

In time gawn oliver and others will command big bucks

You cant just say throw the cheque book at it as regards Hogan

Being in the Premiership window may temper some pay demands

Can someone run a table of our list and likely pay to the cap limit?

Yes but their not limited to a set number of each and clearly we've been after players who are flexible enough to go into other roles throughout the game. Saying how does our forward set up look would mean ignoring TMac starting on the wing or Hogan going into the center square occasionally, it evolves during the game and is a great tactic if done right.

If they do that they push someone else out of the midfield rotation - that's why the 22 in the 3 sets IS relevant.

That is a good side.

I would swap Salem and Fritsch positions.

I would swap AVB for ANB and think next year at some stage Lewis will go and Hunt could come in.

Yes that's a realistic line-up.

The 3 talls forwards are holding out AVB, Hannan and Kent

The 3 tall backs are holding out J.Smith and Hunt

Yeah, sorry. Hannan would be ahead of JKH and probably compete with Spargo.

This is not directed at you Febes, as you only posted the article which is relevant to the topic, but that's rubbish from Jay Clark. It's based on a hunch he has, and that Freo might enquire. Bloody brilliant, Jay. Melbourne might enquire about Buddy, but where does that get you?

There are no quotes, no clear links, nothing. Just Jay Clark trying to get stay relevant and failing miserably.

Good god, there is nothing in the article of substance...or even of interest...it's like a stream of consciousness on the topic of Jesse hypothetically moving merely because he is from Perth.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
