Was thinking the same myself SWYL

Have always whined to myself that we never seem to get the good run with injuries that other clubs get at finals time.

Things are lining up for us in a way they havent for more than 5 decades.

Time to make hay is now.

Yep. When we met in 2012 it was a long road mate

On the 109 home. Last stop was Glenferrie Rd. Soooo sweet watching those sukkas skulk off! Hehe

I just so happen to live in Hawthorn, so got to look at their salty faces as they got off the 70. Sang the song on the tram, it was brilliant.

Extraordinary win. Not our greatest win, and the Hawks threw everything at us in the first 10 minutes of the last quarter but the boys kept their heads and just plowed in again and again.

Those below-the-knees free kicks absolutely p**s me off so badly. However, as the rule currently stands both should be free kicks to Hawthorn. The rule needs changing to ensure the player SLIDES in, and not just goes the ball.

The Hawks tried a dirty tactic tonight. Repeatedly, they pinned one of our on-ballers to the ground while the ball was being balled up by the umps. Sicily and Shiels the main culprits.

Feeling rather good right now.

Off to the tweed 2mozza for a tissot for my 40th present. Will have the scarf out the window

Being there in person from the Gold Coast is incredible. The atmosphere will live with me forever! Unreal

4. There is a reason why Spargo keeps being picked
There were calls for Jeff Garlett to replace teenage rookie Charlie Spargo in Melbourne's line-up for Friday night's semi-final, but that was never going to happen. For all Garlett's match-winning qualities, the Demons' coaching staff rightly prioritise defensive pressure out of their small forwards. Spargo delivers that in spades and complemented those efforts with an impressive offensive display, too. He ended the night with 12 disposals (eight contested), three tackles, two goals and seven score involvements.

Wow! What a game! The boys did a tremendous job. The umpires did their best to turn it on us but they found a way to get through and comfortably. So proud of them. The crowds at both the games have been amazing, never experienced such a great atmosphere. Can’t wait for next week, GO DEES ?

The kid works his guts out. His pressure was fantastic, and that 50 metre goal immense. We wouldn't have gotten that from Garlett.

Just got home and settled in to watch the replay. So happy I could explode.

Im too excited to sleep. What a great night. ❤️?

Thought we were well below our best, but got a deserved win.

Need to play at our potential, better than tonight to beat Meth Coast

The pressure was there. We were seriously challenged by the Masters of Finals, and pulled away.

Finals are not always pretty

How good was Jetta. Breust 0 goals. Huge!!!

To us mere mortals, Lord Nev ?

Frosty - torp from full back, down the guts for a goal.

Spargo's goal from just insides 50 (when I said to my daughter he will set it up because he can't kick that far!)

Brayshaw's mark and goal in last quarter.

And Viney - very glad I never played in his era. Frightening footballer.

Max's towering mark.

So many of our boys giving it to Mitchell every chance they got.

Petracca laughing at the fool Sicily.

Hibberd's run-and-carry.

Good teams can win ugly when required. It shows how good we are, because we're deadly when we put it all together. And as the group develops we'll put it all together more often and with greater intensity!

Never said pressure was not there.

Great win, but we can do better

I'm lubricated by booze but keep this image in mind kids (if you are a wrestling, you will understand)

Petracca needs to improve his delivery into the forward line, on 4 or 5 occasions, straight to Hawthorn players.

His positives made up for the errors, just those missed opportunities could turn a good game into a great game.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice?
