Former Aussie Rules player Cam Johnston has left fans in awe with an incredible performance on debut for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Johnston, who grew up playing Aussie rules and was drafted by the Melbourne Demons in 2011, is battle-hardened for the pressure of the NFL after spending four years punting for Ohio State University in front of home crowds of more than 100,000.

yep.. apparently played 6 games for the Casey senior squad and was then delisted at the end of the 2011 season after only one season.

Went to Ohio State for 4 years and now playing for one of the top NFL teams.

Great story

Clearly found his calling, it just wasn't AFL. Good on him

Maybe he wasn't ready when with us, on struggle street.

From MFC discard to MFC owner in the space of 10 years.

My boy. Eagles have 2 Aussies on their list now.... His punting will get him special teams player of the week potentially.

Philadelphia is becoming a second home for Aussies with our own Ben Simmons (and a mate of Trac), this year’s rookie playing for the 76ers in the NBA.

According to an American friend who supports the Eagles and was at the game, Johnston is the second lowest paid kicker in the NFL. He still earns $US487,500.00 which is not bad coin for someone who spent a lot of his time while on Melbourne’s list playing in the Casey seconds.

He also said that if he keeps it up he'll easily double that and more next year.

Is Ben Simmons, a Dees supporter ?

Cam continues to do nicely but I note that he regards himself as a Cats fan despite the fact that he was once on the MFC list (albeit spent most of his time there playing for the Casey Development League team).

Australian Cam Johnston is living the dream as an NFL punter

It’s not that surprising that one season in the thirds and then the arse wasn’t quite enough to institutionalise him to be honest, WJ. Probably had the opposite effect in fact.

Perhaps it's not totally on point, but does anyone else think that Benny from Abba looks like a giant rat?

Can't see the similarity 'bingers'

That's because he is from Geelong area, used to make the trek rather than moving to Melbourne

When he was delisted I asked him what's next said he might try the punting

Remember watching him trying to kick an American footy, obviously bought one, come a long way

On a side note reckon if Sam Frost's career stalls, he should give it a go, maybe as more than a punter

One of his punts today managed to hit the jumbotron, reportedly it sits 90 feet above the field.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
