Damn Connex and their train cancellations.... I just missed it! :(

Anybody feel like giving a bit of a recap?

I read in the MX that Daniher spoke highly of Brock's future captaincy chances on SEN, but did not commit to Neitz being the captain in 07.

I read in the MX that Daniher spoke highly of Brock's future captaincy chances on SEN, but did not commit to Neitz being the captain in 07.

They said it was likely that Neitz would be announced as captain again for an eighth season at the club's family day in a fortnight. Cam Bruce was interviewed and they did show a bit of training at Sandringham.

Jaded - usually if there's a report on an AFL club during the Ten News they repeat it on Sports Tonight around 10.30p. so you'll be able to see it if you don't have another train to catch at that time!

Thanks for that.

I was thinking after I posted that I could just watch Sports Tonight, but I have to be at work early tomorrow morning so I'm thinking I might actually have to catch a train tonight if I want to get there in time

I wouldnt bother waiting uo to watch it

It was a 1 minute snippet, with the standard cliches from Bruce. Maybe 10 seconds of training vision, if that

I'm happy with 10 seconds of training vision and a 1 minute snippet. To get more time, your club needs to be falling apart at the seams.

If you have foxtel the Cam Bruce interview is on the FSN channel with some good snippets of training.

I don't think anybody has seriously considered that we have another captain in 2007. Neita's supposed to be firing at pre season training and although that's a worn and tired old cliche at this time of year, it's true with the skipper. He has to stay for at least another year and then he can hand the reins over to Brock.

Neitz has stated that he wants to hand over the reins to another player before he finishes his career, and it's fair to say Neitz is in the twilight of his career. It wouldn't be the biggest shock in football if Neitz stepped down.

Well if neitz is not goin 2 be captain in 2007 then it will be neitz decision no one elses decision not even danihers

neitz will stay captain for this season, it would be a bit late to appoint a new captain wouldnt it, i mean you would want them to settle into the job over the pre season

Surely Neitz will be aiming for 300 games at least.

By my reckoning, if he could see out his career playing as 'just' a reliable 50+ goals a season FF then he'd be pretty happy. And might have a few more years left in him, too.

Maybe then people might start noticing things like the way he was in the top 5 goalkickers almost every year of the 21st century.

But still captain this year - he'll want to grab that premiership before he heads back down to the goalsquare! It's much more fun being the captain that took Melbourne into it's mighty new era than captain for the eight years beforehand.

A side note - Has anyone else noticed how Melbourne captains tend to go in a cycle of 1 long-serving, then a short stint, then another long-serving?

Neita captain for 2007 with Brocky in-waiting for 2008.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
