Becoming childish.

Let it go through to the keeper

Lets hope we win on the weekend.

If we have a few wins, the bickering will stop.

Good luck with the last line Ernest.

It's a silly question.

Your answer is self evident in my comment.

If it was self evident, I wouldn’t have asked for an explanation. If it’s beneath you to explain the hypocrisy you refer to, then that’s fine.

However I would have thought that as you continually hounded poor SWYL for an answer to your question, yet refuse to explain your logic in a question given to you, that that is rather hypocritical in itself, don’t you think?

Wishful thinking, it was said partly in jest

I love that the press conference thread has gone all meta with everyone dodging questions.

Good God, man.

Posters say they don't want words.  They say actions speak louder than words. And it even has to be pointed out that it's a compulsory press conference for Goodwin.

The same supporters who don't want words then forensically analyse his every syllable.  They hang off every word they supposedly don't want to hear.

As I said before, my comments were self-evident.

Demonland itself has gone meta! We're no longer discussing the team we're discussing how we discuss the team

spot on

threads derailing.......just like the season

Theres a brutal simplicity to the idea of what some want at a presser ( getting it another thing )

When some say we dont want words...That's it..we dont want to hear anything really..especially recycled garbled rubbish.

Something akin to Mourihno meets Malthouse will do just fine.

Nothing...or next to nothing....then you ( Coach ) can go back to what ever theyre supposed to do

Why is this hard

Great.  But I can't fathom why you don't understand that they are required to talk to the media and do so in a respectful manner, otherwise they risk fines from the AFL.

I get the sentiment that we want actions rather than words, but you're going to have to accept that the 'words' part will always be there, like it or not.

Mourinho was very respectful in saying nothing.  Theres an art to it

Theres a chasm between the hogswallop often trotted out ...and saying nothing ( essentially )

Even Tmac has that worked out

And how did that work out for him?  He was out of a job very soon after, and he was currently under the pump for a variety of other reasons as well.

Again, get used to it.  You don't have to like it, but you'll have to accept it's 2018, not 1978, no matter how much you wish it were.

He wasnt out of a job because he refused to do the media dance...thats Premier League..a whole different beast to AFL.

Still..some folk know how to handle the media..

You miss my point.  He gave that interview when he was under immense pressure.  He's never done it again.  It was described as one of the most bizarre interviews in Premier League history, and it didn't galvanise the squad at all.

Goodwin handles the media fine.  He answers the questions, keeps the focus on himself and protects the players.  In this day and age, that's his job.  How often is there a needless headline based on a media appearance from him?  Never.  He's not stupid enough to say needless things to heap more pressure on himself and the club after a loss.  You go out there, act professionally and then do the hard stuff when the cameras and microphones are gone.

No, it wouldn't.

You have misunderstood my pun, which is understandable.

Because i'm too stupid? Or the pun is mangled?

Either way i obviously don't get your joke.

You said you would like to see Nasher's scenario of Goodwin being mute at a presser. Even better you say - do a Pyke and stand there and not say a word.

A reverse pyke you say. Reverse being the opposite of something. The opposite of Pyke not talking at all is Pyke talking a lot.

Am i missing something?

you know he was talking diving lingo ?

Yes. Hence MY pun ('sorry, your pun dived').

A reverse pike involves the diver entering the water the OPPOSITE way she/he is facing when leaving the board, hence the name of the dive. And hence a reverse pyke in his 'pun' meaning he would would not be silent.

Image result for reverse pike dive

In any case how does the diving allusion work in this context or make the pun work? He wasn't discussing Rance on Neymar.

I would love to see Goodwin just stand there in a press conference, completely mute. Don’t answer any questions or make any comments, just stand there in complete silence.

Maybe while just staring blankly he could squeeze out a fart. Then walk off.

The whole post,  I have replied to swyl in the other goodwin thread regarding his thoughts on goodwin which appear to be identical to yours, go to that thread if you wish to see my thoughts.

But how do you know it was "accepted", which was your assertion.  You were speaking about the game on the weekend against St Kilda.  You weren't referencing any other game.

How do you know the players and club have accepted those 3 quarters against St Kilda.

That was your accusation.

Now, answer the specific question and try not to reference 1966.

Because it keeps happening. That was not the first time players didn’t gut run for each other, or spread for options.

Those 3 quarters were a shambles. It happens regularly.

The players don’t lift a gear under pressure, they let it beat them and then apologize on tuesday.

How often have we had the same scenario? season after season....

So you don't know that the first 3 quarters were "accepted" against the Saints.  You're guessing they're OK with it because it's a failure in their game that's happened previously.

To suggest the players and coach just idly "accept" this aspect in their game is another of your inanities.

So you are accepting that St.Kilda are a better more skillful side in 2018?

Why did it take 3/4 to change our game ?

Because they have to say something!

We've been over this.

The coaches and the players do not have a choice, they are required to speak to the media. Your ideal for "nothing or next to nothing" is unachievable. It cannot, and therefore will never, happen. So instead of complaining that it's "all talk" every time Goodwin or a player makes a comment, let's accept that they have no choice but to do it and get back to discussing our form and the side.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
