Rightly, many supporters want to see results instead of hearing platitudes.  Yet so many of those same supporters analyse everything Goodwin says.

They probably don't even realise the hypocrisy.

It’s hyocritical to analyse the coaches comments yet still want results?

Sorry PD but I cannot see the link - can you please explain?

It’s the CLUB that keeps repeating itself....

You were asked, "What do we need to see to know whether it has or has not been accepted?".  This was with regards to your comment "what other club would accept the first 3 quarters".

I'm interested in your response to this very specific question.

So happy you are interested in something

This club repeats it’s failing on and of field far more than others in the AFL (gold coast aside, they will die)  We say we don’t like it, but we are not strong enough or ruthless enough to shed the stigma

But you haven't answered the question.

What do we need to see to know whether it has or has not been accepted ?

Whether WHAT has been accepted

explain IT in your above

if you are referring to post Round 23 as being the turning point of “no more” then no it hasn’t

I would love to see Goodwin just stand there in a press conference, completely mute. Don’t answer any questions or make any comments, just stand there in complete silence.

He’d probably get bagged for not giving the members the answers they demand, or something.

I for one would applaud.

Yes Nasher I would actually like to see that

Like when Mark Riley confronted Abbott and Abbott just stood there, mute, visibly shaking

Or better, like when Pyke just looked at his team as we ripped them apart (remember when we were that good?)

Yep, Don Pyke style. A reverse Pyke if you will.

Start "I'd like to see that" old school AFL jingle from telly

Pun points for effort - but wouldn't a reverse Pike involve Goody talking - a lot?

Sorry but your attempted pun dived.

Maybe he should go with the Jose Mourinho style of interview?

No, it wouldn't.

You have misunderstood my pun, which is understandable.

I'd like to see an end to excuses.

3 years of Roos.

Halfway through Goodwin's second year.

How long does it take to teach players to play hard nosed accountable footy.

Like not wandering off in direction of a contest when you're tracking an opponent running into their forwardline.

Like not realising that if you over commit to the contest you'll leave opponents in space free to receive from the contest and dispose of the ball under no pressure and when you try to release to a team mate he'll be about a metre way under the same pressure as you are.

Like applying manic pressure like the trendsetting Tiges who won one of those Premiership things.

How long do we have to wait?

My enthusiasm for the coach has fallen this year however I don't take a lot of notice of press conferences. After game ones are the worst and I am confident coaches only do them because the AFL decrees they have to.

As a coach it appears to me that whatever you say as a losing coach is seen as crap by at least 50% of supporters. They are no winners.

Oh dear.

The following is @Danelska's question to you:

What other club would accept those first 3 Quarters last week???...ps what does this statement even mean? How has it been accepted, or not? What do we need to see to know whether it has or has not been accepted?

You haven't answered these question.

What do you need to see to know whether it has been accepted ?

Because you're inferring it HAS been accepted.  How do you know this ?  What does it look like ?

I am looking at onfield performance. Workrates over 4 Quarters are still unacceptable in pressure games. After Round 23 last year i would have thought performances like that are not to be tolerated, but they are still happening.

I cannot make it any clearer

Just because you think it is unacceptable does not mean the players have accepted it.  But that seems to be the lapse in your logic that leads others to ask what do you mean by accepted.

sigh...like any of this conjecture matters... the team will perform poorly - some will be ok with it, in the context of growth, some will be upset and see it as the old demons... some will continue to support, some will disengage...but THEN jump on the bandwagon when the going gets good again... and all previous crimes of all parties involved will be absolved.

Whatever the players have accepted, it is not enough. That is clear to see.

Losing to St. Kilda in 2018 on the MCG is not acceptable, however you package it.

Once again Round 23 last year still doesn’t hurt the entire FD enough, so they refuse to let a scenario like it happen.

But within 9 months it has

Good grief,  there is a distinction between X happening and players thinking that X is acceptable.   You assume the players have accepted (defeat, lack of effort, incompetence, whatever).  But just because they have been defeated etc does not necessarily mean they have accepted it.  They might just not be good enough.

But how do you know it was "accepted", which was your assertion.  You were speaking about the game on the weekend against St Kilda.  You weren't referencing any other game.

How do you know the players and club have accepted those 3 quarters against St Kilda.

That was your accusation.

Now, answer the specific question and try not to reference 1966.

It's a silly question.

Your answer is self evident in my comment.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
